Should the Landlord have done more by now?

A pipe started a massive leak the other day, and a lot of water spread across the upstairs bathroom (the pipe was to the washbasin), into the bedroom a bit and of course, through the ceiling and into the lounge, which it effectively flooded.

He came that night and started to get the water away (he seems to always attend to things himself, with no tradespeople on call...), but the water was turned off of course, so I went to a hotel, and stayed that night and the next.

He came with "a machine" (and an assistant), the next day and removed most of the water - BUT, has not done anything else since. The flooring is ruined (vinyl floorboards and big rugs and kitchen cushionfloor - upstairs, bathroom vinyl, landing carpet and bedroom (doorway).

My Insurance wanted me to "leave the damage as it is until we can inspect" - maybe a week or so and landlord said he doesn't want to claim on his insurance but will "sort everything out" - himself, I suppose.

But AIBU to think that

  1. more should have been done in terms of drying out - which I appreciate would mean lifting the damaged flooring - and
  2. it should have been done by now - not completed but, after a few days, there is definitely a funky odour now, and the place is very cold; putting heating on won't help much I think, but doors and windows are open most of the day when I am here. Or should I have done it (all)?

What should I expect, do you think?
And what should I do/be responsible for?
I didn't cause the pipe to fail - it went with something of a bang followed by the hiss of pressurised water, as I sat on the floor in the room below. It might be an age/deterioration thing (and I am now worried about the others.)

(The carpets are not "mine" - and are not great quality, and old....)
