Just as the title says. Arrived late last night, we have been lazing by the pool today but would like to explore a little more this evening, see some of the culture and have dinner in a nice bar or restaurant.

We are close to the Plaza so not far from most areas. Can anybody help! I can't seem to get my bearings whatsoever!

Also, are there any shopping streets / areas that are a must see?

See a flamenco show, do a tapas crawl, check mumsnet, you’re not the first to ask. Enjoy!

Ages since I was in Seville but I liked it! I was on a language trip. Things we did:

  • Afternoon trip to Cadiz to visit the camera obscura and the beach and have a wander.
  • Went to a traditional flamenco and music show.
  • Visit to Seville Cathedral.
  • Visited La Giralda tower, Torre del Oro and the Alcazar.
  • Lots of chocolate con churros in the cafes - hung out in lots of cafes.

Enjoy your trip. Smile

La Carboneria is a fun flamenco place. A trip to Italica is always good if you like ruins. The Alcazar is beautiful too.

The cathedral & the giralda

PinkPlantCase · 26/08/2023 14:30

The Alcazar blew me away.

Centro Cerámica Triana is a ceramics museum just across the river. That was great too. If I could have carried a full set of tableware home from them I would have!

I think there’s also a convent somewhere that sells cookies or some other baked good. That was a fun experience.

I don’t know if you can still get inside but the main university building, Royal Tobacco Factory of Seville was also pretty special

Ooh, following as I’ll be in Seville in November

If you like spas, see if you can book Aire. Cheaper than the London venue and sooooo relaxing

Parque de Maria Luisa. Have a horse and trap ride, it takes you through there too iirc.
Sat there on NYD in t shirts drinking wine just before Covid. They have a lovely little cafe in the sun.
Love Seville. One of my very favourite places.

Ah just wander, look at the map for the big ticket items and either use the tram or walk around. That way without too much planning you will find most things, like ahem, the tapas restaurants, the cathedrals, Alcazar, boat trips on the Guadalquivir river, Triana district, the shopping, the University and top of my list - the Plaza d'Espana, where the flamenco dancers happened to be rehearsing for their night show and it was a great busking experience.

Nightime is great for atmosphere down the winding pedestrian streets of the "tapas" quarter (not far from the Cathedral). There is so much to see and do, you have to decide for yourself what interests you most. Seville has everything you might need and is an amazing place. Enjoy.

We did a horse and trap ride and it was amazing. Passed all the squished oranges and it smelled gorgeous. Also a river cruise. So relaxing and cooling. All the local kids started showing off doing somersaults off the banks for us. Was brill.

Karmakamelion · 26/08/2023 15:29

The Jewish quarter was my favourite part

Las Setas is fun.

Plaza Espana is beautiful. I found it was a lovely city to just wander about, but I went in late February which was more conducive to that sort of thing - Seville is often hotter than Hades in August.

The Macarena district is great for bars and tapas restaurants. El Rinconcillo is a legendary one - it is busy and you stand at the bar and order dishes from smartly dressed waiters who chalk up your bill on the surface of the bar in front of you.

Bar Alfalfa is more laid back but has amazing food and again you can just prop up the bar and order dishes from the staff as you want them. I had an amazing salmon and egg dish there.

Twofurrycats · 26/08/2023 19:10

Palacio de las Dueñas - home of the late duchess of alba.

Ginmonkeyagain · 26/08/2023 19:26

The Alameda de Hercules is also a good place for lively nightlife. It is a wide open public square, it was a bit dead when we went in Feb (depite daytime temperatures that we would be very happy to have in May/early June here in the UK!) but I am assured it is very lively in summer.

Day trip on the train to Cordoba if you have time. Cordoba is beautiful

Duvetdayforme · 26/08/2023 19:35

The cathedral and the Alcazar are both amazing.

A boat trip also fun.

Emmaemmeline · 26/08/2023 19:39

Went to Seville with my parents years ago , poured with rain

Yes indeed it is. I know this thread is about Seville and many on a city break would not have the time to get to Cordoba AND see everything in Seville too, but if you have the time do go, it's a quick enough journey by train and so worth it.

I did it this year in February, flew into Seville 3 days, up to Cordoba 2 days, over to Granada 2 days, and on to Malaga for 2 days and flew home from there.

It was a lovely, interesting, and amazing trip and I would highly recommend it.

weegiemum · 26/08/2023 20:12

Climb the tower in the Cathedral (and wave to the members of your party who were too afraid and stayed in the orangery at ground level!).

Tapas

The Alcazar - find the peacocks!

Sit in one of the many squares which have cafes with water mist (we were there in July and it was 42 degrees) and drink very cold beer!!

Scottishlanza · 26/08/2023 20:23

The Torre Seville had amazing views from the top and a lovely if expensive bar. It was next to a great shopping mall on the other side of the River. We then walked down the river to the Mercado de Triana and had authentic tapas sat at a stall in the market.
Go up the Setas at night for the light show, all the major city monuments are lit up and the views are great. Loads of restaurants and bars nearby
