Aibu smoking weed around children camping

Just wondering if aibu or not

We have paid around £100 each (family of 5) to camp with my friend and her kids at a popular farm park that are doing a weekend where you stay over.

A lady with two children around 2 and 11 has camped right next to us and immediately started smoking around us as soon as she pitched up early this afternoon (there is a designated smoking area at the bottom of the field).

Got back from a toilet trip around an hour ago to find the whole area in and around my tent stinking of weed. Went and reported to a staff member who went and spoke to her and told her that even smoking in or near your tent isn't allowed and she said it was definitely this woman next door smoking it.

The staff member came back and told me this and offered to let us move our tent tomorrow but we have quite a big and heavy tent and we want to be off exploring with our kids not wasting time we have paid for moving. Plus we wouldn't be with our friends anymore unless they moved too.

I feel bad for her kids and im really annoyed she cant just give it a bloody rest for 2 nights on a kiddies camping weekend. This woman's tent is pretty small and she must have been right next to her kids, its got me thinking... do the staff at the park have a duty of care to report this woman? Is smoking weed around your kids considered neglect?

I often have a glass of wine - often two - when in charge of my baby and 2 year old. It's a wonder we have survived so long

Tents go up in flames in a matter of seconds. She should not be smoking near tents at all. That's why all firepits etc need to be a good distance from your tent as well. I'd be more worried about her correctly disposing of her joints correctly and safely which, the more she smokes the less likely that becomes.

The weed could be legally obtained and on prescription. Having a spliff doesn't render most users incapable around children. She should have more respect for those around her though

Medical cannabis isn’t prescribed in the form of weed! 🤣

Cannabis-derived medicines are in the form of liquids, capsules or a throat spray. The doctor doesn’t just send you off to a dealer with a prescription for a bag of weed and a packet of Rizlas.

You can get cannabis flower legally prescribed in this country for more than 6 years.

They advise to vape it, but how you consume it is on you really

I don't understand why you're being moved when it sounds like she's breaking the rules of the campsite by smoking in and around the tent? Regardless of what she's smoking, why can't they enforce the rule, and ask her to stop or leave.

NoTouch · 26/08/2023 14:10

If she smokes it again go back to camp management and insist she is removed from the site or from your area.

I have no time for the normalisation or weak attempts to excuse illegal drug users impacting others. Leave the camp site a scathing review if they do nothing about it.

YANBU OP. The smell of weed makes me gag it’s disgusting.

My neighbours smoke it day and night in their garden and face dove ever since their DS was a toddler (when they moved in) she’s now 14 and she joins in with them.

Their house do they can do what they want but I end up having to shut my windows even in summer because it’s a constant stench.

Jug of water in the tent.

Who is she going to complain to?

Radiodread · 26/08/2023 14:18

How is she getting to and from the campsite? Because if by car she is putting her kids in danger and if she gets drug wiped she will be in big trouble. Smoking anything in a tent is stoopid, and it is highly unlikely she has obtained it legally.

That said, I do think it should be legalised personally, even though I don’t partake myself. And I think the risks of inhalation to her kids are very small unless she’s doing it in a tiny festival tent.

hoophoophooray · 26/08/2023 14:18

I would ask the site staff to move her. I cannot have that around me, as we are random drug tested at work with zero tolerance. If I got selected on the Monday and I had any trace of it, I could be in a lot of bother. I choose not to socialise where it might be smoked for that specific reason.

Thisismeyeah · 26/08/2023 15:36

Probably, but you wouldn't choose to camp right next to it and you would be hugely unreasonable if you left your car pumping fumes into the next tent.

Clearly she shouldnt be smoking weed or cigarettes around the tents, children or any other living breathing thing.

Bet car exhaust fumes are 100 x worse than a bit of weed being exhaled.

This!

The staff's response isn't good enough, they need to ask her to move or leave. Letting guests get stoned and stink out everyone else's expensive camping equipment is not exactly a good look for the campsite. If they refused to take action I would be leaving a shitty review.

Radiodread · 26/08/2023 23:22

Is that physiologically possible, to test positive because someone was consuming cannabis near you? How do they test you?? I’m amazed by this. If I had random drug tests and they were this sensitive, I’d never be able to go out as it is so prevalent round here
