To not want someone to visit who has bedbugs

My aunty has just been battling bedbugs, trying to get rid, has been doing it herself rather than hiring someone.

She wants to visit. I am terrified of her bringing them into our home. We have a baby, well even if we didnt i wouldnt want it of course but if we had to fumigate whilst keeping the baby out that would be a nightmare!

I dont know anything about them but a quick google search tells me people can bring them into your home.

Aibu to say no? But when will it be safe to have her over?

Ha ha, OP if you'd put the vote buttons on I reckon you'd have got an unheard-of 100% vote for YANBU!

Not laughing at her (or anyone else), though - poor woman. But DO NOT knowingly expose yourself to the risk.

How do you check in a hotel to not bring them back? I have to take my own pillows and genuinely worry I’ll bring them back

I saw a TikTok by a flight attendant who said she leaves her suitcase outside the hotel room door until she's checked that the headboard and the inner hem of the mattress are bedbug free.

Don't let her anywhere near your home.

I might have to google some videos to check this

No no no. I got into a car of a friend who had bed bugs. The experience was severely traumatic. Please don't put yourself through this. I was trying to be a good friend but it destroyed our friendship in the end. It was simply horrific. I still dream about it and the utter chaos and hell it caused. Please protect yourself. Be selfish. I wish to God that I had been.

Almahart · 25/08/2023 19:12

No way. Do not bring this on yourself, you would be absolutely mad to say yes.

spitefulandbadgrammar · 25/08/2023 19:19

No no no no no. We bought a house with bed bugs. It was utter hell. Your baby will be fine (they go after adults because of the CO2 you breathe out), you will be a broken shell of a human.

Spaghettine · 25/08/2023 20:23

"I think we'll wait til the bed bugs are sorted". Done

I can't see the dilemma here, Shirley she understands that you don't want an infestation? And you appreciate that she's trying to eradicate them

Same with stepson. Hiding in the bedframe. They like to sit on the ceiling as well.

No way I'd be inviting the chance of bedbugs into the house. Little fuckers travel, like fleas do.

It’s absolute hell! We had a solid wood bed frame which came in 4 pieces and had to be hammered together. Even the bedbug guy was like there’s no way they’re in there!

We dumped the bedframe on some land we had access to and literally smashed it apart as we couldn’t believe they were in gaps that small. We needed to see them to make sure we weren’t going crazy! But there they were! We lit the frame on fire afterwards and burnt them alive. Was paranoid for months after.

Agree with all the messages. Don’t entertain her. Buy her a coffee instead.

Netcam · 26/08/2023 07:41

Say no. Arrange to meet in a neutral place like a cafe.

Basically she is saying my cousin came over to help her bag everything up. And everything is washed. She said they are not in the house at all anymore... my question is how does she know!

Bedbugs love the edges of mattresses, and she can’t bag that up and wash it.

Don’t let her stay.

JMSA · 26/08/2023 08:56

YANBU. From what I've read about them on here, bedbugs are a total nightmare.

readbooksdrinktea · 26/08/2023 08:59

There is no chance that would be happening.

nimski · 26/08/2023 10:35

God no! I lived in a shared house that had bed bugs in my 20s, was bitten head to toe and they are so hard to get rid of. Still makes me shudder and was 20 years ago!

nimski · 26/08/2023 10:46

Also they live in the mattress or any other type of furnishings so the landlord had to fumigate the whole place!

JMSA · 27/08/2023 21:21

I had a nightmare about bedbugs last night. Cheers OP Grin
