Mildly irritated as this isn't the first time.

MIL is visiting which is lovely. Offered to take the kids out on their bikes (fine very helpful i can have a tidy). This usually means going up and down our cul-du-sac. Gone out 5 mins later and they've vanished. Ok Not really a problem.

Its now dinnertime they've been out for an hour. Called MIL, she's left her phone here.

We are surrounded by busy roads, kids are 3 and 5 and both learned to cycle without stabilisers in the last few days. MIL doesn't live here and doesn't know area well. She's mid 70s. (But fit and well)

This would upset me. Hope they were back safely.

ohcrums · 24/08/2023 22:15

Don't let her take them again

coxesorangepippin · 24/08/2023 22:17

Yeah I'd not let that be happening again

Not really. She's not bringing them back!

What ever?
Has she kidnapped them?
It's a bloody bike ride

Sigmama · 24/08/2023 22:21

Let's assume they got back soon after op's last post which was pretty early

SM4713 · 24/08/2023 22:23

What happened OP? Awaiting an update.

BeeLievable · 24/08/2023 22:24

What time did they get back?

Last time this happened she turned up an hour later then planned and had fed the kids cake :(

Oh is back from work and has gone out on his bike to find them.

It irritating because she's been doing similar since ds5 was 6 weeks old. It wouldn't be a problem if she just took her phone with her.

So she could get distracted from supervising them answering her phone?

PinotPony · 24/08/2023 22:26

How lovely for them (and you) that she's happy to take them out for a bike ride. Those memories are more important that the minor inconvenience of a delayed dinner.

Put bluntly, at some point she'll not be here, and you'll wish she was still about to spend time with your kids.

Don't sweat the small stuff.

CointreauVersial · 24/08/2023 22:28

Let it go. Cake for dinner won't kill them. They will be having a fun time with their granny, and they will be safe in her care.

Although I do understand why you're a bit irritated, because it's not what you would choose.

SisterWedge · 24/08/2023 22:35

Id be annoyed. I wouldn't be able to relax having no idea where they are. I also think 3 is very little to be out for so long on a bike ride. Wonder if mil is capable of transporting tired child and bike back to house.

What was the outcome OP?

Gremlins101 · 24/08/2023 22:38

Are you my DIL posting from the future? I am so sorry.

Canisaysomething · 24/08/2023 22:39

It's annoying and my own mum is like this. But I'd rather my kids and mum made those memories than fretted about dinner time the odd evening.
