Waiting time for colposcopy

Abnormal smear test (result took 12 weeks)
Letter with results says I will get an appointment letter within 8 weeks.

Today received a letter saying I will receive my APPOINTMENT letter within 52 weeks.

AIBU to want to put in a complaint?! Is there any point??

To me this is absolutely wild.

Hey, you might have cancerous cells but wait up to 52 weeks for an APPOINTMENT that will be god knows how long after.

Wow, that seems absolutely crazy! Could it be an error?

What level of abnormal cells did you actually have?

KinooOrKinog · 24/08/2023 16:49

Yep, same thing happened to my sister's colleague, 52 week wait. My mum's been waiting eight months for a so called urgent cardiology appointment. Christ knows how long the non urgent wait is.

You could complain, but I suspect you'll be told to either put up or shut up. Or go private. That's ultimately what they want you to do. Or they're hoping you die first. It gives me rage that the government is forcing us to pay for a service and then essentially refusing to provide it.

Maybe go back to your GP and question this.
Failing that, if there is any way you could afford to have it done privately, then do. You should be able to get a quote if you contact a private hospital.

Ive already went private because I couldn't take the worry. Cost an absolute fortune but I couldn't go over a year knowing I have cells that could cause cancer!
The letter doesn't say anything about grades of changes just abnormal cells.

I don't think it's a mistake, I'd heard there was a year wait for the colposcopy itself but a year just to get an appointment which is then how long after is out of control. I think it's specific to Glasgow too but they give you no option to go to a hospital in another council area.

I'm absolutely appalled that you either wait and risk your health or you pay an arm and a leg.
