To think this isn't a good sign after an interview?

Interviewed for a job on Tuesday. Thought it went well at the time, however the more I've sat with it and gone over my answers in my head I feel more and more like I won't have got it. Anyway they said they had more interviews Wednesday and then one on Friday. So with the bank holiday it will be Tuesday or Wednesday I hear back.

I applied through the job on indeed a couple of weeks ago and then last week they took the advert down. I just went onto indeed this morning and they've posted the advert again new today.

I am taking this to mean they haven't found anyone and want to interview more people. What do you think?

Who knows?

Hi @AnxiousAnniee
I always think about the answers i've given at an interview too.
They could be recruiting more people and they have interviewers, conference room bookings all in place so could be the best time to get another advert out. I'm sure you done great in your interview! Hope you get the job x

NineToFiveish · 24/08/2023 15:11

They did something similar when I recently interviewed - I was on the third round of interviews and they still had the job open for applications on LinkedIn. It was a new listing as well, they'd closed the original one about a week after my 2nd round. I have no idea why, but I got the job so it obviously didn't mean much! Best of luck to you.

SunshineThelma · 24/08/2023 15:17

Maybe it's as simple as that they have another vacancy to fill. I'd try not to read into it.

AnxiousAnniee · 24/08/2023 15:24

I've actually got the job! They called me 30 mins ago. They do have two positions though so i guess that's why they have reposted.

The recruiter asked me when I can start. My notice is 4 weeks but then a weeks after my start date I go on holiday for a week. I told her and she said she will tell the employer. But now I'm worrying that they'll retract the offer because of my holiday. Are they allowed to do that? Usually in other interviews I've been in they've asked me if I have any upcoming holiday but they didn't ask and I forgot to mention due to just being so nervous and forgetting that I even have a holiday coming up. I didn't realise it was so soon tbh. I don't want to hand my notice in tomorrow if there's a chance they're actually going to come back to me and retract the offer. Does anyone know if this is unlikely?

Great news, well done!

I doubt they will withdraw an offer because of a week's holiday. People have holidays booked when they start new jobs all the time! I went on leave for 2 weeks after 2 weeks in my current job, wasn't an issue.

Presumably your current employer owes you the leave though? I'd negotiate to finish your current job in 6 weeks (5 worked plus your leave) then start with your new employer.

5128gap · 24/08/2023 15:29

They're allowed to retract it. Whether they will or not depends on how much they want you balanced against the inconvenience. Which in turn depends on how many other suitable applicants they had, and how much better than them you were, and how much of a hurry they're in to fill the role.

HowcanIhelp123 · 24/08/2023 15:32

Don't resign until you have signed a contract! Always say notice period is X, so X time after contracts signed etc. Holiday shouldn't matter. Surely they can just say start after the holiday, resign so you finish work after the holiday and go straight into it.

AnxiousAnniee · 24/08/2023 15:41

So it was the recruiter who called me and said basically they definitely want me and I definitely have a job with them and they have it in writing. The only reason why the contract hasn't been sent yet for me to sign is because they have an interview on Friday. There's two positions available one is in recruitment and one is in HR. They asked me in the interview if I'm interested in either or just one and I said either.

So they are waiting until they have seen this other person on Friday to decide who the second person will be then they will decide who is better in which role. So I won't know which role im in until next week so won't have my contract until then.

Also I've taken too many holiday at work, they won't owe me any. I will owe them. Ours go from April to April and I got a kitten in June and used up loads of my annual leave to be at home with her (didn't realise I'd be leaving of course, this job just came up and I had to go for it because been wanting to get into HR for a while)

NEVER hand in your notice until you have signed the contract for the new job!

What if you give a leaving date to your current employer as the date you finish before your holiday (5 wks time?), then take your holiday (but it will be unpaid) and give a start date to the new employer for after your holiday.

AnxiousAnniee · 24/08/2023 15:48

Okay, I think I will go back to them then and say this. What is the reason that you should not hand in your notice before signing the contract? Sorry I know it's probably completely obvious but I'm not sure 🙈

Hi OP. I wouldn’t worry about the holiday- chances are that by the time you’ve got the contract or Ts&Cs you’d potentially have added another week before you can hand your notice in. Definitely don’t do that until you have the contract- you want to make sure there’s nothing in there that you weren’t aware of, plus until you have signed and returned the contract they could in theory withdraw the offer with no explanation. None of this will come as a surprise to them, so don’t worry about it :)
and congrats on the job!

FlamingYam · 24/08/2023 20:04

Could you start for a week and then go on holiday? I know it's a bit of a rigmarole but essentially you must have accrued the holiday from the old place to be taking it so you'll be paid it anyway?!

FlamingYam · 24/08/2023 20:05

P.s congratulations!

AnxiousAnniee · 24/08/2023 20:13

Thanks everyone. Yes I have spoken to them and I am going to start the week before the holiday they said it's not a problem. And I won't be handing in my notice until I have the contract. I'm so nervous to do it!

Only thing that's really shit is I've already taken loads of holidays so I will owe them money which they will take out of my final wage because I haven't accrued them. Our place runs from April to April and I've already taken 17 days since April oops
