Nuby Rapid Cool

Hello not sure where to post this.

I'm becoming increasingly stressed about the thought of flying and being abroad with a 4 month old next month.

I normally use the perfect prep machine or if going out, make with boiling water and cool using a jug of cold in a restaurant etc.

Has anyone here got the Nuby Rapid Cool and if so, would you recommend it? How do you use it? Is it worth buying the kit or just the cool flask?

DD is on dairy free formula so I can't just take some cartons of it, I have to take the powder and I'm just wondering if this will make life easier whilst at the airport, on the plane and abroad.

Thanks 😊

Hey! I'm traveling in 3 weeks with a 6month old!
We got given a rapid cool and couldn't live without it!
You're meant to make all the milk in it but then you need to sterilise after every use which really is not ideal! We measure out the boiling water in a bottle, pour majority into the rapid cool so you've got enough water in the bottle to do a hot shot with the powder. Because you're only using water in there there's no need to sterilise. The set is really expensive I think when it's just a hot flask that you get 🤷🏻‍♀️ we just have a £5 1litre flask from Tesco. Have a look for a second hand rapid cool, some on Vinted for £10-£15

When out and about or travelling we used to take two chilly bottles - one with boiling water in and the other with cooled boiled water. Then just make the bottle up in the same way as the perfect prep!

I'm finished with formula now but I had the rapid cool and loved it! It was great for out and about. In theory you are meant to pour the required amount of hot water into the rapid cool, add the formula, shake and let it cool. The lid turns green when it's cool enough, this never takes more than a few minutes. I had two of the flasks and two of the rapid cools, I got a great deal on them in aldi at one point, but they can be expensive elsewhere.

We do have one - we got the kit with two rapid cools. They are really useful, but I have to say I would just use ready-made formula while travelling if it is at all affordable for you (don't mean to offend).

This is exactly what we do too. Cheap flask from ASDA and then cool the water in the rapid cool, before making up the bottle- it’s much less faff than cooling the milk.

We have a rapid cool and it was brilliant on holiday. Didn't sterilise it after every use, just washed on hot soapy water. That was for 6m+ though and I wasn't really sterilising anything by that point

MiraculousLadybird · 06/09/2023 15:05

One thing if you're flying - it's quite heavy so build it into you weight limit if you're on ryanair or similar!

That’s annoying you can’t get your special formula as ready made. I think @Mummy2823 ‘s solution with the rapid cool is good for once you’re at your destination but your issue is where to get the hot water when on the plane. The plane tanks never ever get cleaned and you can’t guarantee the water is actually heated to 100 degrees. I wouldn’t give it to a baby. If it’s a short flight you could get boiling water from a cafe post security, make up the bottles before boarding and then they’re drinkable in 45 minutes and stay good for 2 hours. If it’s a longer flight I’d personally use room temp Evian bought post security (specifically evian as the mineral content is definitely ok for babies)- yes it’s not ideal but most other countries eg USA, France, Australia etc say it’s fine to use room temp water, the NHS guidelines are just more stringent, and if it’s that versus plane water I’d personally go with the evian every time.

Thanks everyone, I ended up buying a thermos flask that keeps hot for 24hrs and a cheaper one for cool boiled water on Amazon, both for £35 so much cheaper than the Nuby.

Hopefully that works, I'll give them a trial run over the weekend 😊

Hi @elm26 how did you get on?

I'm trying to decide what to do. The nuby single one's price has come down on Amazon so I'm wondering whether I should just get it ...

elm26 · 21/09/2023 06:24

Hey @JoyApple

We ended up buying a thermos flask for hot water and a regular cold water flask for the feeds.

It is a bit of a faff for the cool boiled water as takes ages to cool to room temperature from the kettle but we just had to be organised and do it ahead of time/keep our supply in the fridge topped up.

Once we were in the swing of things, it was fine. I'll link the flasks for you in case you're interested. Both worked really well and no leaking etc. x

Thank you @elm26 that's super helpful with the links. I couldn't decide between a 500ml or 1 litre thermos hot flask ...

elm26 · 21/09/2023 22:12

Go by how many oz your little one has.

We could have done with a smaller thermos flask and a bigger cold one! I was tired, in a tizz and ordered the other way around by accident when I only do 2oz hot water and 4oz of cold.

We replaced water before it ran out but we could have easily got 6 or 7 6oz bottles out of them (I was paranoid about water not being fresh so replaced every morning and evening although the thermos kept it scalding for hours and hours) x
