Is anyone else aware of this?

I'm not sure where else to put this... but interested to see if anyone else is aware of the code talk language between men in the office around women?
Would love to hear any phrases that you can shed some light on...

I'll start "wawawiwa" = code cat call for a drop dead gorgeous woman.

I've heard this being spoken in may offices I've worked in over the years. Always used mostly by men to men when they are highlighting a woman they find attractive without directly saying it.

The Urban Dictionary has no academic credentials whatsoever.

snowmanshoes · 23/08/2023 10:28

Tbh I’ve heard it - mid 40’s dont work with teens so it’s not beyond the realms to consider that OP has come across it too.
I’ve heard it more in a jokey way though rather than actually meaning anything - ie. A man saying to his own partner wawawiwa 😁 if she’s got a new outfit/hair/nails etc

Hocuspocusnonsense · 23/08/2023 10:46

What??

ive worked in many offices over the last 30 years and never been aware of secret language.

NotMadeOfStone · 23/08/2023 10:55

That's cos it's a MAN secret @Hocuspocusnonsense 😁

Winniethewitchy · 23/08/2023 19:51

It's not a secret language, just a word or phrase that all males might be aware of to alert of an attractive woman.

I once worked somewhere around 18years ago (big company) where men would slam their desk draws very loud twice if they thought someone who walked their desk looked attractive, it was to make the other blokes look up!

It goes on, believe me.

Another place I worked at, again another big company, there was a running daily 'top 10' of the office floor.

When I worked in the maccys drive thru many many years ago we would put "boy toy" or "girl toy" through on the order which is meant to be used to specify the happy meal toy but we used as code for the staff in booth 3 to check out the hotty 😂

BrawnWild · 23/08/2023 19:58

Those men sound like sad pigs.

Does anyone who has finished school need to objectify women in a professional space?

I would he so disappointed if any man I knew acted that way. Beyond sad. And intimidating to women on the receiving end and a backhanded dig at women who aren't. Nobody needs their appearance rated at work. Grim.

And I'm sure plenty of women in those roles progressed well into senior positions... some of the very lucky ones might even have gotten the compliment that they slept their way up...🙄because men wanting to shag a woman is such a compliment.

I would hate to work in such an unprofessional environment.

I also wonder if you've been watching too much American "comedy" and citing Urban Dictionary as a reliable source is too funny.

No, i dont watch any American comedy, so not sure what that's in refrence too. I got all this from personally witnessing it.

I totally agree that it's unprofessional, i wanted to see if others had seen this sort of behaviour too, hence my question at the top of the thread.

No need for digs. Just a discussion point. It wasn't quoted as a 'reliable source' just merely pointing out that it's there.

At the risk of mansplaining, I am a bloke and worked in the City for most of my working life and in offices for all of it. I have never heard of anything like this? Take it from a bloke OP we're not that subtle.

momtoboys · 23/08/2023 21:04

People who can form a coherent sentence actually watched "Borat"?

40andlovelife · 23/08/2023 21:10

Can't believe how passive aggressive so many of you are being to the original poster. Absolute weirdos . I'm relatively new to MN but quickly learning it attracts some of the nastiest people

40andlovelife · 23/08/2023 21:20

I've heard the word prawn used to describe a person who has fit body but undesirable face . Used by men and women

HeatherMoores · 23/08/2023 21:38

What planet are we currently on tonight? Just for reference.

Nope.

Are you sure this wasn’t 50 years ago? In school?

AllyCart · 23/08/2023 21:46

It's just Borat... as PPs have said.

The Urban Dictionary has no academic credentials whatsoever.

The male colleagues in more former workplace were linguists who did research into urban slang, among other things, but, being adults and comparatively civilised, they didn’t communicate in it.

Do say where you work, OP. I teach literacy in a prison, and the men behave considerably better than this.

HeatherMoores · 23/08/2023 21:52

If it’s true that’s outrageous behaviour in an office. I can’t think people (men) would get away with behaving like that these days but then I’ve mostly worked in public services and we’re probably a bit cushioned from bad behaviour (apart from the odd errant patient).

FictionalCharacter · 23/08/2023 22:06

NotMadeOfStone · 23/08/2023 07:41

Men in your office walk about going 'wawawiwa'?!

If my colleagues started doing that I'd assume they were having a stroke.

😂😂😂
