Why are police so powerless against kids who cause damage?
Even when caught clearly on camera.

Police or the courts process?

feralkids1234 · 22/08/2023 11:51

both really. The kids know it too

Come to Scotland. Under 25’s can rape and not get a prising sentence due to their young age here.

feralkids1234 · 22/08/2023 12:05

its disgusting how they can get away with it, they have caused about 2k worth of damage just to myself alone. Not to mention the theft arson and other damage in the area. These kids really are feral how could anybody think that rape should have anything less than the maximum penalty

Can you identify the kid - ie name them as being the person who has caused the damage. Or is it a case of its just a group of local kids in the area.

Quite often they all wear similar clothing, so its difficult to identify them as being the one who has caused the damage.

You also find that their parents will always back them up to the hilt. Parents swear blind that their darling child has been in the house all night doing their homework when we know full well they haven't.

yes hes looking in the camera while doing it, and they have caught another but even the police say they cant do anything and just send the kids on a course

Totally agree. I was reading a FB post from a friend who was was sharing a human rights campaign. One of the things was shaming police for searching (and potentially strip searching) a person under 18. Whilst I understand the motivation behind this, it's a very different prospect searching a five year old and a strapping 17year old with drugs and a knife. And so, they now they'll get away with it cos human rights innit?!

If he can be identified and he has caused £2000 worth of damage of course they can be prosecuted.

What ever the outcome from the courts is doesn't stop the police from arresting/interviewing him.

There is an offence there with an identified suspect.

If they're juveniles, the courts have very limited options for sentencing unless it's something really serious. First time offenders only get referral orders, which don't seem to require them to do much at all, and subsequent offences only get fines or community orders.

For anyone under 17 to get a custodial sentence (detention and training order), it really has to be something serious. DTO's carry a max sentence of 2 years, unless for it's for a crime that an adult could get 14 years for.

Can you go after the parents in small claims court?

Trenchfootinthescottishhighlandstoday · 22/08/2023 19:19

Years ago we had a feral dc in our street. Used to see him loitering round our car and trying to damage our garage and fencing. Started hosing our paving down every time I saw him. A few times cold dousing kept the absolute little shit away. He escalated to abusing a local girl. Her dps didn't even report him they just moved. Mind boggles what became of him.. Police were useless our way.
