To be worried about mid cycle / odd spotting ?

I'm 43 and I've recently had a weird couple of periods.

My periods always last for 6/7 days. The last one in July went on for usual amount of time but then 2/3 days later I had very light brown spotting intermittently for about 4 days.
This seemed to coincide with ovulation which I normally can feel. however it was very early as usually it's about 12/14 days after the start of my period. I also generally get a drop or two of light brown pretty much at the same time I ovulate but this has happened to me for years and years and I believe it to be normal.

This month my period arrived 2 days early, lasted for 6/7 days as usual. Then 5 days later which was Saturday just gone again I had light brown spotting started in the evening. It's been intermittent since then and obvs it's Tuesday morning now and I've had a tiny bit when I wiped this morning as well (sorry if tmi)

I've got a drs appointment on Thursday to discuss

My mind just keeps going to sinister reasons for this 😩😩 I have severe health anxiety anyway which I'm going to speak to the dr about too. My smears are up to date and have always been clear but I do have one due end of September

Has anyone else had this and if so was it for non scary reasons? Help as I'm freaking out 😢

Try and not worry too much. I'm sure it's hormonal. I have PCOS and have had this sort of thing on and off since I started my periods in my teens. I'm not saying yours is PCOS obviously but it's likely a hormone imbalance as well, due to peri. Obviously you're right too get it checked though. Good luck

Thank you for this , yes I have heard pcos can also cause this.

Well my appointment is at 10:15 so I'll update later in case anyone else is experiencing similar and reading my thread

So I went to my appointment and the dr was fab. She did an examination of my cervix and an internal plus felt my lower belly etc etc she says everything looks and seems normal . She's also done swabs to check for infection but said that's unlikely as I am married and monogamous (unless my h has anything to hide 😆)

She is pretty sure it is perimenopause/ hormonal esp as I'm also having peri symptoms. but I’m also having a pelvic scan tomorrow morning

Thanks for the update, and glad everything seems to be ok! Hope the scan goes well tomorrow.

Ah that's great OP. Thanks for letting us know. Hope the scan goes well. Just a thought - it might be a transvaginal one rather than the through the belly pregnancy type one. So be prepared 😁

Really good to come back and update, so many don’t. So far so good and I hope the scan reassures you further.

Oh yes the dr mentioned that it would be tranvsvaginal 😩 not looking forward to it one bit but needs must

It's at 10am so least I've not to wait around all day for it

Sooooo I’ve had my scan and nothing worrying was seen. I was a bit tearful when I went in and I told the dr how worried I was in case was something sinister

He did both an external and internal scan and I was panicking cos seemed to be taking forever .
But straight after the scan he said he said "I've got good news ...it is definitely not cancer" He thinks it’s almost certainly due to pre menopause changes. But I have also have “a little bit” of endometriosis around my left ovary. I’ll have a follow up with the gp in a couple weeks but generally good news I think and I'm so glad I did not have to wait long

It's also made me decide to get private health insurance now. Had a quote from the actual private hospital I went to and it's reasonably affordable so I'm going to go for it I think.
