AIBU to wean at 5 months

Shameless post here for traffic.

My baby turned 5 months old last week. The guidelines in the UK AFAIK are to wait until 6 months.
However my baby seems ready. He is making chewing motions, I'm 90% sure his tongue thrust reflex is gone, he can sit unaided (albeit tripod stance but he sits well in a highchair) and tries to grab food from our hands.

I'm in a big mummy community IRL and anyone who deviates from guidance or does anything "risky" like cosleeping or formula feeding or screen time is looked down upon a bit.

Just interested in opinions and wondered when others weaned their DC. In my opinion it isn't like babies are magically ready for food the very day they turn 6 months, but I don't want to rush things unnecessarily either.

I weaned DS at 16 weeks. His reflux disappeared, he started sleeping through and is now a strapping 6ft 17year old.

All I'll say is bear in mind the people telling you they did it at 4/5 months and it did no harm don't prove that it's the right thing for your baby, or that it's a good idea (or even that it didn't actually do harm!).
The only person I know to do it so early did so against her own mum, HV and various others saying wait until 6 months. Her daughter threw up regularly and frequently had stomachache quite regularly.

I would definitely get proper professional advice before trying it prior to 6 months, guidance changes for a reason.

Also don't worry if you do wait until they sit unsupported. I have 2 toddler waste disposal units that are never full, both started at 6 months. One loved solids from the get go, one didn't really take much at all until he was 1. You'd never tell now. 😂 I found weaning to be a pain, like we're now starting to go through with potty training!
