To ask the man to clear his throat and nose

Sat by the pool on holiday trying to relax with my book and the bloke on the sun bed next to me is consistently sniffing and making phlegm throat clearing noises every 30 seconds. I don’t think he is unwell I think it’s just a habit but fml I can’t put up with this all day!

AIBU to ask him to stop or clear his throat and nose properly?

Maybe he’s got that thick phlegm that doesn’t go away when you blow or cough. My son’s had it for a month post covid now and I understand your pain but he can’t help it.

move your sunbed or put headphones in.

itsmyp4rty · 20/08/2023 10:51

No, it would do my head in too but I think you should move.

What are you basing this on?

And yes YABU as if he is unwell you could make him feel really embarrassed.

Wait for another sun bed to become available and move.

There is no where to move the sunbeds to. It’s like a habit nose because when his wife is here and he’s chatting he stops it. It’s when he’s sat alone (most of the time) and seems to be a habit

I presume you have a working pair of legs and can get up and move if it's bothering you that much. I get that the noise could be irritating, I'm very sensitive to noise, but I wouldn't ruin my day being irritated by a stranger making noise.

Then it's possibly tics, in which case mentioning it is likely to make them worse.
