Hi. I’m normally really bad at learning new languages so looking for advice.

I live and work in an area with high levels of immigration (I think lots of refugees and asylum seekers too but I’m not actually certain of specifics) I’ve met so many lovely people out on walks in the park, in cafes, in restaurants, in the hairdressers and just in general everyday life and I love living here. there are lots of people who speak very little to no English and I sometimes feel bad because I can’t communicate fully with them both at work and in everyday life (even just to make everyday chit chat, how are you? Thank you. Have a nice day etc) and it would be nice to be able to talk to people properly in a language they are more familiar with. I can say very few phrases but it always seems to make people happy when you make an effort to speak a language they are more familiar with. But I’m absolutely terrible at learning languages, it isn’t something I’m skilled at at all. Does anyone have any tips or advice? Or something that helped them learn a new language? I’ve found language classes in the area I could attend but would it be better for me to get a private tutor instead? Any advice would be fantastic!

I also should have included, it’s 1 particular language which is widely spoken here which I would like to learn. I understand not everyone will speak it and I won’t be able to talk to everyone but it’s the most widely used language so thought it would be the best to learn for now and then hopefully learn more in the future if I can!
