I asked this on the weight loss chat, but got little response! I'm considering getting a gastric balloon... need some drastic action but don't want the permanent surgery! Just looking for any experiences of the procedure good or bad!!

Have you done anymore research into it? I’m also looking into getting it so would be good to see anyone else experience with it.

I had a 12 month gastric balloon last Tuesday in turkey. Procedure was easy as I was sedated. Was sick for the first 2 days. Get stomach ache but can't differentiate yet between cramps and hunger pain.
Last night had my first solid meal. I did throw it up later meaning I probably had too much. Going to be trial and error working how much you can eat that's just right. Lost 5lb so far.

What was the total price please?

£1700 in and £500 to take out

Where did you get it for that price, if you don’t mind sharing? I can’t find it for less than ~£3k in England

I would say YABU as from what I've read the only proven long term effective weight loss surgery is gastric bypass.

To be fully transparent though, I have done zero investigating, I was reading the book "Why we eat (too much)" by Dr Andrew Jenkinson, who is a weight loss surgeon. The point of the book is not to flog weight loss surgery but at one point it does discuss the various types and notes that the only proven long term effective weight loss surgery is Gastric Bypass.

It makes sense though, because while you have the ballon in you're forced to reduce portion size, but over the time you have it in you would be able to (even slightly) increase your portion sizes, and then when it comes out it's only your mental fortitude that would stop you moving back to overeating again.

I'm 6 weeks in now and have lost 18lb. The weight loss has slowed down now to 2/3 lb a week which is healthy I guess. I do have to be careful what I eat as too much can leave me really uncomfortable. I struggle with alcohol too, one glass and that's my lot
