To immediately go on strike in a new post?

I have applied for a second role within my existing organisation. This is in addition to my existing full time post.

It's looking likely that strike action may begin around the same time as this post would begin.

I will strike. My current FT manager probably expects this. But AIBU to go for this second job knowing I would likely be striking within weeks, if not at the start date?

YANBU.

If everyone in your union is striking this is not personal, it's not about your new role/title.

You have every right to withdraw your labour.

Wishitsnows · 15/08/2023 20:35

Why did you take the second role if you are unhappy with the conditions/contract?

If everyone is going on strike then they'll expect it surely?

I haven't taken it. I haven't even been selected for interview yet.

I am not unhappy with the terms and conditions of this particular post. It's a brand new role.

I am unhappy with the how negotiations are going within my organisation and sector overall. One aspect in particular, which would likely not affect me, but would affect colleagues.

As for expecting it, that is likely. They will know that strike is imminent, and as it has only been advertised internally, there is the risk of strike for anyone applying.

I just felt I was being unreasonable about it. Like I'm unreliable.
