To enjoy a drink at home ?

1-2 times a month I will buy a four back of Heineken beers / peroni or 3 passion fruit ciders and enjoy them at home over a couple of hours after the kids are In bed but that's it other than the handful of times I'll also have a cherry gin and lemonade a year. Occasionally I'll buy a bottle of wine and have half one night and half the next. Maybe every 3-4 months.
So that's my aibu. I probably have about 8-16 units every 2-4 weeks
I can go without but then I feel like treating myself with Ice cream or chocolate instead

The amount you are drinking is not unreasonable the fact you view alcohol as a treat is.

If not a treat what do you view it as?

PonyPatter44 · 07/01/2024 14:03

My DP is pretty much teetotal, but he doesn't mind if I drink. Your level of drinking sounds fine, and your partner shouldn't be sniping at you for your choices.

My DD drinks cherry gin and lemonade ....it is quite sickly!

merryhouse · 07/01/2024 14:09

@DragonFly98 you think it would be better if she viewed it as something she drank without noticing? something necessary to life?

A treat is simply something you enjoy.

I realise parts of MN have started to conflate it with "reward" or "love token" but it's actually neither of those things.

You are way under the average recommend units per week . The only thing you need " help " with is your liking for cherry gin ! .

Another old thread that's been resurrected. Why don't people read the dates

Missmarplesknittingbuddy · 07/01/2024 15:17

You don't need to be smart to check a date!

Missmarplesknittingbuddy · 07/01/2024 19:52

@Beezknees ,I will bow to your vastly superior intellect and give you get another pat on the back , before leaving the thread .

It's perfectly normal to enjoy a drink from time to time. I see it as a treat as well. It's also normal to be the total. Each to their own and respect each others choices. .

Talkwhilstyouwalk · 07/01/2024 19:55

*tee total

AyeRightYeAre · 07/01/2024 19:56

Nothing wrong with that

Ohhhthedrama · 07/01/2024 20:00

I think that sounds very reasonable. I have a drink most evenings. Either a couple bottles of beer, a glass of wine, or a spirit & mixer.
