Hi everyone, sorry I am posting here for traffic. I can make it an AIBU 🤣 AIBU that I am worried this is lymes disease?

My 9 year old daughter was bitten a few weeks back. The bites now look like this and I'm suddenly really worried by the bulls eye appearance.

She's T1 diabetic. We go on holiday in a few days

A tick usually attaches for 24 hours before there's a risk of Lyme's disease. Would you have noticed it in that time?

KnittedCardi · 14/08/2023 22:55

I would say just a normal reaction to a bite, also unlikely to get two ticks sidd by side. Having said that get them checked to put your mind at ease.

Just note that with Doxycycline you can't go out in the sun as it makes skin sun sensitive.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 14/08/2023 22:59

I'd say antibiotics and not wait. It is not true that a tick needs to be attached for a certain length of time to be at risk. I had a tick bite and smacked it off not knowing what it was while exercising outdoors. Bull's Eye rash appeared several weeks later after the bite area remained red and raised. There are other issues with ticks besides lyme. Don't risk it. Get a GP to look at it right away.

The last person I knew who had a tick removed was told they only treat if you start to become unwell.
Having a tick bite doesn’t always mean Lyme disease. Where are you going on holiday, abroad or U.K.?

This is the above if there's bullseye rash

TregunaMekoides · 14/08/2023 23:43

Ticks are very common where I live and I've become quite adept at removing them from the kids.
It would be unusual to not see them in that location on her legs.
They look like infected bites to me but either way she needs to see the GP tomorrow.

EmmaPaella · 14/08/2023 23:50

I would definitely go to the GP BUT it doesn’t look like the Lyme rash I had which was bigger and angrier. That said, they don’t all look the same. It looks like what my kids get from a normal tick bite and once, a spider bite (in a tick area).

OrwellianTimes · 14/08/2023 23:52

She needs to see a GP. DH had a bit like that and had anti lime disease antibiotics for a couple weeks.

Better safe than sorry.

Diedre44 · 14/08/2023 23:52

I would try and get her to have an antihistamine in the meantime if she's able to half a tablet should be fine under 12's and draw a line around it to see if it's any worse/better in the morning. Still call GP surgery first thing.

Flossieflamingo · 14/08/2023 23:57

My son with a bite like this was treated for Lyme disease. We live in an area where there are lots of ticks and the GP thought it best to treat, even though we didn’t see a tick. Ticks can be knocked off or fall off once they are finished feeding.

JayyEmmBee · 15/08/2023 00:14

I had this exact thing in 2019!!!! I was concerned about Lyme disease. Turns out id been bitten by a spider. I needed abx.

justasking111 · 15/08/2023 00:36

Been a good summer for ticks. GP tomorrow.

LadyEloise1 · 15/08/2023 09:50

I do hope you get to the GP today with your dd @Suddenlyveryworried2023 and she gets treatment.
It looks nasty.

Suddenlyveryworried2023 · 15/08/2023 11:10

Thank you all SO much for your help last night.
She's just been seen and is being treated for Lyme's disease 😬 Apparently ticks are rife round here (South of England) and w3 also spend alot of time walking through grass and woods.

They can't put her on the antibiotics they want to because it makes people very Sun sensitive and as we arw about to go on holiday to Cyprus, its not a good idea. So she's going on a different type and as soon as we are back in a week, she will then start the other type.

This is her leg today.

What a nightmare. Something else to worry about!!

I'm so glad you got a diagnosis and medication.
Wishing her a speedy recovery and you all a great holiday.

ArcticSkewer · 15/08/2023 12:30

It's really good that you have started on antibiotics straight away. Hope you have a good holiday and she recovers soon

Un7breakable · 15/08/2023 15:05

@Suddenlyveryworried2023 Make sure to let your travel insurance know in case there's an issue on holiday now that she's seen the GP
