Sorry, posting for traffic because it’s almost the end of the day and if this is a GP matter I’ll have to phone ASAP…

Just changing DS’s nappy, he had some nappy rash so put some sudocrem on, suddenly noticed his willy was bleeding on the under side where it meets his ball sack. I wiped the blood away and saw it wasn’t a cute but a small piece of the skin (maybe half the size of your little finger nail) has come away and is raw. I let it air dry then put on a thin layer of sudocrem, not really sure if there’s anything else I should be doing? He seems fine in himself, he didn’t cry or seem in pain, just worried about infection from poo etc

Keep it clean and creamed.

EmptyTheFrickingBins · 14/08/2023 17:07

Keep it as clean and dry as you can. Do you know what caused it?

timetogoawa · 14/08/2023 17:08

Send message to GP

Motomum23 · 14/08/2023 17:09

Get yellow metanium it's better than sudocrem. Other than that keep it clean and don't stress.

Request an appointment with GP but in the mean time, change his nappy alot more often. Cleaning well with soft cotton wool and a very thin layer of sudo

Sounds like you’ve done the right things. Keep
it dry (you might need to change his nappy more frequently whilst it’s healing) and see how it looks in the morning. If it’s not bothering him, and gets better on its own, I wouldn’t worry but if it’s not improving or is worsening/smelly/producing discharge then it’s a GP job.

Also make sure you’re using shop bought sudocrem and not sample pot sudocrem like the mini ones you’d get in a Bounty pack. I didn’t realise until the other day that because of the rules about pharmaceuticals, free sudocrem isn’t medicated like the normal stuff is!

Thanks, ok I’ll keep it clean and creamed and phone tomorrow morning. It must have happened when I was rubbing in the sudocrem as it wasn’t there when I opened the nappy. He has eczema around the skin folds in his groin so I’ve been using 1% hydrocortisone there sparingly, I’m wondering if some of it transferred to his willy and thinned the skin maybe? It was all a little bit sore though from regular nappy rash which is why I was using the sudocrem to start with. Poor little guy!

When I had my baby, the nurse that first bathed him advised me to use cotton wool and warm water. After drying use olive oil instead of creams. I knew no different so naturally took her advice. DS never had any nappy rash or broken skin. It also worked on cradle cap.

You just smear your hands and then rub it in. Also has the advantage that you have hands that are super smooth and it's cheap as chips.

My youngest frequently gets sore and red and has had this issue underneath his penis before. Keeping it dry and creamed will do until you can check in with the doctor in case it needs an anti bacterial or anti fungal cream. The yellow cream mentioned works wonders!

As it's summer and warm try leaving him as much as possible without a nappy on at all
