I am a hard worker. I really care about what I do and try to deliver for my team. I work in an office job but WFH since the pandemic, I don’t think it’s due to being remote. I’ve noticed people just don’t care as much? They don’t reply? I get a lot of “I’m busy sorry I can’t help”. It’s so frustrating and I can’t figure out why everyone seems to have lost their care factor? Anyone else?

Totally agree with the comment about getting bored? What’s the point and what do you do day to day then to fill your time?? I have to be at my computer and at a desk! So what are people doing instead then??

Well if you're working from home then you can get your cleaning done, read a book, watch television, study for qualifications or for fun, anything you want. The pp said she gets all her actual work done during her working in the office days and works hard on those days so she can relax on her work from home days. It makes sense to me.

CaramelMac · 15/08/2023 17:13

Where I work (large company, 100s of people doing the same job) we cannot get staff, so everyone is overloaded with work and then they go off sick with stress, and when we do get new staff they find the workload too high so they leave almost straightaway. It’s a joke now as soon as we get a new intake how many will leave within the month?

It was never this bad prepandemic.

SweetPotatoAndPeanutStew · 15/08/2023 17:45

@Eudaimonia5 and then people re surprised when workforces are cut...

@willWillSmithsmith You couldn’t be further off the truth. Self-employed and paying myself a pittance, still give 100% for my clients though. What is the point of being a lazy fucker at work ? Surely the day is long and boring.

Couldn’t resist a sneaky search on your name

you have posted more than 10,000 times on mumsnet (that’s the maximum number the count goes up to so likely much more!)

You either have a business that requires very very little effort on your part or…. 😂

Flipflipmania · 21/08/2023 15:31

That was to @userxx

Flipflipmania · 21/08/2023 15:56

I imagine those who are “lazy fuckers” at work are like that because the work itself is very dull and/ or management is appalling

so whilst I don’t relate to it. I can sympathise with those that do feel like this

Flipflipmania · 21/08/2023 16:03

userxx · 14/08/2023 14:42

Jesus Christ. And this is why we're fucked, what a shit attitude.

I hear you OP, many people have become bone idle and entitled, see above.

Oh I love this cracking post from you here @userxx

userxx · 29/12/2020 18:02
@Butchyrestingface You're not wrong, next year I'm getting a salaried job - I can leave the job at the door at 5.30pm , 28 days holiday, sick pay and a regular income. What the fuck have we been doing being self employed!!

lavenderlou · 21/08/2023 16:19

I’m a teacher and this isn’t my experience at all-we are working harder as we have much less external support, much less money and far fewer resources.

With teaching, and I expect frontline NHS, social care etc, you are expected to do more and more with less and less. It's unsustainable, hence people leaving. Like people in other sectors, I (as a teacher of 20 years) have decided to cut back on all the extra stuff I do at evenings and weekends to the detriment of my own family. I will do what needs to be done for the benefit of learning in my class but if there are shortcuts available I'll use them. In the current educational environment, if Senior leadership don't like it, it won't be too hard to leave and get another position.

TodayIamcalled · 21/08/2023 16:21

I am not as engaged with work as I used to be, I admit it. Aside from pandemic (where I worked as best I could) the COL has demotivated me somewhat and then the way my employers have changed our ways of working has also demotivated me. Far more bureaucracy, far greater turnover of staff whilst still expecting everyone to output the same, constant restructuring/change, far more requests for 'can you help...' whilst being given a pay increase that is far less than COL. Many of us suspect that they don't wish the people who have been there a while to stay, but trying to get it so that we quit without redundancy. It is hard to care or want to go above or beyond when this is the landscape

HeatherMoores · 21/08/2023 16:42

People have reevaluated their priorities and realised that work is shit and they’d rather be doing something else with their lives. But it’s not that simple. Most people only go to work for the money. We have no choice. Doesn’t mean we like it.

I think before people were so trapped in the grind they didn’t realise what they were putting up with or that there could be any alternatives. The pandemic has been a bit of a red pill.

Luckydip1 · 21/08/2023 20:20

Once you have a mortgage it's helpful to have a regular salary which is fairly reliable, but it does mean you become a bit stuck.

DannyLaRuesBestFrock · 14/08/2023 14:46

I disagree.

Employers have shit on employees from a great height. And some of us that used to go above and beyond, have become disillusioned and feel taken for granted.

I still care that I do a good job, but I no longer put myself out, where I would have before.

Couldn't agree with you more.
DS works for a company that made £100million profit last year and this year, to celebrate, the company are making redundancies.

I'm in this camp too. This situation sucks the joy out of life 😪

JKDcot · 21/08/2023 21:56

It’s so boring to just not care though. It’s a hole… you still have to turn up (online if not in person) and it’s more annoying to justify lack of stuff being done than just do the work?

OP posts:
Flipflipmania · 22/08/2023 09:16

Op on the basis of other threads you sound unhappy and far from content with your lot in life. So perhaps others compartmentalise their work if they hate it and don’t put effort in to it but instead funnel their energy in to carving a happy and fulfilling like beyond work

JKDcot · 22/08/2023 20:03

i am happy and have a fulfilling life. I love my family, my friends, my home. But work is 5 days a week 8.30-5.30 so it’s unfortunately a big part of my day to day that I just hoped to get some enjoyment from

JenniferBooth · 22/08/2023 20:23

I was once told by a young Tesco worker that the reason a lot of their staff wernt always turning up to work was because it made no difference to their home/rental situation
Come to work............get evicted
Dont go to work............get evicted.

userxx · 23/08/2023 22:05

@Flipflipmania how utterly bizarre to go through my past posts from years ago and pull out one where I was clearly being sarcastic. Must try harder next time or get a new hobby.

Scatterbrainbox · 23/08/2023 23:35

JKDcot · 14/08/2023 18:40

Thing is though, it’s nice to care and want to do a decent job. I don’t think it has to be about going above and beyond or even the other side just doing the bare minimum. I liked the feeling of a decent job, learning some new skills, making friends with colleagues. Feeling part of something even if you know the business ultimately makes the cash and you just get paid a wage.

what makes me frustrated and sad is that people don’t seem to want to help others or understand that we all need to contribute a bit together. It’s the ignoring of emails, declining a meeting 2 minutes before it starts (or not turning up at all with no excuses). You couldn’t get away with that before so why now?

If you have friends and family, hobbies and interests, you will get all that from people that actually care about you.

What can I say - recovering from a (minor) op and sitting out in the sun, with a coffee, with very little else to do do. Bliss. But a bit boring. Lots of mumsnet time!

But no - you absolutely weren’t being sarcastic. I’ll post the thread!

Flipflipmania · 24/08/2023 05:37

you have post a MIN of 10,000 posts. Is mumsnetting your job?

BaaCode · 24/08/2023 06:38

I've been in the workplace for over 40 years. As you get older, you become more cynical of it.
You're nothing more than a number who will be dropped like a hot coal when necessary.
You're there for the profit of the company, nothing more.
I've always done the bare minimum. If my contracted hours say I start at 8, then I don't start while 8. The phone on my desk can be ringing it's arse off before then but I won't answer it.
When I finish at my contracted time for the day, I finish at that time on the dot. I refuse to work overtime or have anything to do with work, including emails and such once I've finished for the day. As for WhatsApp etc, nope.
When your employer tell the employee's that they won't be getting a pay rise due to affordability, then the same employers rock up in brand new top of the range Audi's etc, then why should I give more!
So no, I do my own work to standard and that's it, I'm not taking yours on too.

Flipflipmania · 24/08/2023 09:03

I love my job
look forward to going in

but… key info… I’m part time and I think that’s the game changer
