To think this was ridiculous

Aibu? I had my nose pierced and a friends dog jumped up at me when I went round to his house. I’d only had it in a week so it hurt and I was worried about the piercing. Cleaned it straight away etc but it felt to me that it had knocked the Jewellery out of place and that it had come loose.

I contacted the piercing shop and they told me to come in and they would look at it. I went in, they looked it at for 5 seconds, said it was absolutely fine but they charged me £5 for doing that which I wasn’t aware I would have to pay before hand.

Then the same night when I was sleeping my nose ring fell out. I thought it was loose but they told me not and I didn’t want to faff about it with it myself incase of risk of infection or making it worse. I couldn’t get it back in as it healed over so quickly. The piercing shop said I would have to wait a bit and get it re pierced. Just feels like a big waste of money

People should control their dogs. No dog should jump up on you like that.
You were never contracted to pay that fiver, you can't just ask someone for a fiver without agreeing it first.

go somewhere else to get it pierced and don't go round to that friend's house until it's completely healed, or ask them to put their dog away when you visit.

Missingmyusername · 14/08/2023 12:16

Where did you get it pierced, £5 is ridiculous just for looking at it. I’d complain. I’d also not go back there to get it pierced.

See the friend in your own house.

Can't believe they charged you to have it checked, what a cheek.

DysonSpheres · 14/08/2023 12:22

People have very unrealistic expectations regarding PRIVATE business and it's a similar attitude with private healthcare follow-ups

But time is money. It's perfectly fine to charge for aftercare even if just a check up. The person is paid for their time not just the procedure.

That said, you should go somewhere else next time and ask beforehand what aftercare charges will be/are/if any

SirenSays · 14/08/2023 12:25

Added up I've spent hours with piercers trying to get jewellery back through piercings. I've only ever been charged for re-piercing or brand new jewellery.

FabFitFifties · 14/08/2023 12:50

Will your friend pay for repiercing? It's not the shop's fault. They should, however, of told you in advance re the charge to check it over.

awaytofrance · 14/08/2023 12:52

A good shove would have put it back in. It can't heal up in a matter of hours

Trinity69 · 14/08/2023 12:55

Pretty sure as PP said, it will go back in. It might be sore but it doesn’t need to heal and be redone.
You say nose ring? New piercings shouldn’t be done with a ring, a flat back stud is apparently ideal but I had a normal nose stud initially.

Leahhhmae · 14/08/2023 13:36

Thanks everyone. I will try again to get it back in. I’m not sure why I had to pay £5 as they advertise on Facebook that they provide free piercing after care for up to a year, which I didn’t know until after I’d been.

@Trinity69 yes I’d heard that but they did let me have a ring straight away.

I read on reviews after that it’s not an actual ring its just bent around with no actual clasp or anything on it? There wasn’t any little ball or anything on the ring to kept it together so that may be way it came out easily

No decent piercing shop should be charging to check your piercing like that.

What kind of nose piercing is it - nostril or septum? If it's a nostril piercing, they probably should have put in a stud rather than a ring.

I think you'll find that they can. My first stud fell out in the shower and I didn't realise. By the time I went to bed 2 hours later, I couldn't get it back in - after being pierced for about 3 weeks. I can absolutely take that short a time to heal over enough to not be able to get the jewellery back in.

Ring vs stud - I did a fair amount of research and all posts, etc said to have a stud at first, then once healed you can go for a ring if you prefer. I believe that part of that is the fact that the hole is made with a straight needle - a ring is curved and therefore adds pressure to the wound. Wearing a straight bar in from the get-go will allow the minimal amount of pressure on the wound tract.

No. It physically cannot heal up in 2 hours. It's not possible. It may have looked that way to you and you didn't want the pain of pushing it in (which is fine). But it would have gone in with some effort.

Hold an ice cube on both sides of the piercing for ages before you try it.
