To ask if I'm the only woman in the world who is always bleeding.

I posted this in Women's Health but wanted to see if any other women had similar experiences
I am at a loss again.
I'm 54 and have been bleeding for about 18 months. I have low grade period pain and an irritated bladder
I've tried everything, medication, coils ( they fall out)

I've had a fibroid removed, it made things worse not better. I have a bulky uterus.

I've had a Zoladex injection 3 weeks ago but that turned the bleeding on like a tap again.

I'm anaemic again, even though I had an iron infusion at the end of March which was supposed to last about a year.

I've ended up taking Norethisterone again as well as the Zoladex to reduce things to a trickle. A constant trickle. Without the Norethisterone it's a clot filled flood. I probably shouldn't have the two together.

I'm not on the list for a hysterectomy as I'm too fat ( see earlier thread) but I'm hoping next time I see the gynaecologist he will add me as I'm making an effort)
Even so the list is 18 months long.
I bleed all the time.
I'm self employed so no sick leave.
GP is referring me for a pelvic ultrasound and a CA125 blood test ( ovarian cancer marker)

I haven't been offered an ablation. I think it might be the only thing left to try. Although reports I've read are mixed on if it helps

I'm feeling sorry for myself again, I'm bleeding and cramping this morning.

I did, for 3 years. Nothing worked, pill, coil, medication. Had a hysterectomy which was amazing, although it has taken a long time to get HRT right. It's joyless, you have my sympathy 💐

I did for 18 months post mirena removal, was literally housebound - norethisterone didn't even lessen it nevermind stop it.

Finally referred to a gynae who mentioned PCOS and diet - I cut out processed foods (especially veg, palm, rapeseed and sunflower oils) and it stopped in two weeks. It's a pretty extreme diet to follow, but I found I could still socialise and eat normally in restaurants or whatever 2-3 times a week if I stuck to it the rest of the time.

It is truly miserable and you have all my sympathy :( I was referred to that gynae for ablation but he said I was a poor candidate for it as too much oestrogen and it would impact scans in the future.

Give the zoladex a bit longer; the ovaries initially try to compensate by chucking out a load of hormones before they get the message and give up.

I have adenomyosis. After the first month on zoladex, I had little to no bleeding, and 80% less pain. I wish I could stay on it until my body goes into a natural menopause (likely to be within the next 5 years) but my gynaecologist will only agree to 6 months. I was allowed a second course of 6 months after a huge bleed which made my haemoglobin and RBC count drop by 30%, but I'm not holding out much hope of getting more.

I do have a Mirena in (this one hasn't expelled itself because it's embedded itself in the muscle wall of the uterus) but I'm not convinced it does much apart from ticking a box for the gynaecology department.

@HouseIsOnFire how do you not become seriously anaemic?

I ended up with an emergency blood transfusion in March. I swear I was nearly dead.

Can you tell me more about the diet please? I'm trying to lose weight so I'm willing to make sacrifices.

I absolutely was to the point of being housebound because I kept blacking out and had to have iron injections (after finally getting referred - I turfed up to gp with a jam jar of blood I'd lost in a day - gross but he refused to refer me to a gynae because "everyone says they have bad periods, yours are no different")

My menorrhagia stems from pcos, so I don't know if it will help, but basically cut out inflammatory foods, processed foods and eat very high protein. I cook using olive oil or butter and above all avoid rapeseed oil which is definitely a trigger. Generally if I can't recognise an ingredient on the back of something as something I'd have in the kitchen by itself, I don't eat it. It's a pain cooking from scratch but I know it's worth it (with a few exclusions like sweet chilli sauce and squash!)

I follow this list https://www.mypcoskitchen.com/my-pcos-diet-cheat-sheet/ but haven't given up dairy or coffee (they can claw that from my dead hands!)

And there's a list of what to avoid but you have to join the mailing list, it pretty much boils down to white carbs, processed foods and inflammatory seed oils:

I feel your pain (literally) That's why I'm awake.
I've been bleeding now for 3wks and 6 days solid. I feel so weak. I'm on the waiting list for a Mirena Coil which judging by this thread will make zero difference. Already on iron for anaemia. Do I contact the GP or is it useless?

RedDoughnut · 15/08/2023 08:39

@MaryShelley1818
Go back to the GP and see if yiu can get a gynaecologist referral.
I paid privately for my first coil as I was told it was the answer to everything and I couldn't last the NHS waiting list.
It was about £250?
But it came out with a massive clot in a week so it was a total waste of money.
However, don't let that put you off, loads of women have success with it.

I had the mirena and it stopped the bleeding but with a whole host of hideous side effects, but lots of women seem to swear by it!
