Fed up of dad's rubbish bathroom etiquette

We've had a new baby which means we're having relatives visit a lot. My dad visits every other day - he's retired and I'm on maternity leave so it's quite nice to have the extra pair of hands.

BUT he ALWAYS leaves the seat up in the loo and I'm pretty sure he isn't washing his hands either 😭

I don't know what to do or how to tell him I'm not ok with it. I don't want to embarrass him and also he's a bit at the "head in the clouds old man stage" so I'm pretty sure he'll forget as soon as it's time for his next trip to the loo anyway.

Any advice?

Glue the toilet seat down

On my old toilet I wrote PUT THE FUCKING SEAT DOWN in sharpie on the underside of it. Didn't work but I thought I'd suggest it anyway

Ok who voted that I'm being unreasonable 😩

I'd imagine it's people who think that on the grand scheme of bathroom disrespect, these are relatively minor snafus. For instance, we recently had to deal with someone who wouldn't run the brush around the loo at work to remove skid marks and they peed on the floor.

However, I think YANBU personally because he should definitely be washing his hands around a new baby! I would just prompt him every time he goes near the baby: "You need to wash your hands", and I'd remind him to put the seat down as well. But then I always had that sort of relationship with my dad where we could talk about slightly awkward stuff.

I'm sorry but I may steal that for work (unisex loos)

As my dad has gotten older he gets really grumpy for no reason being told to alter something he's doing. For some reason he takes it quite personally. For example the other day I told him to stop speaking so loudly (because the baby might wake up) and he stopped speaking altogether for a good hour

IfOnlyOurEyesSawSouls · 13/08/2023 23:44

Not only does my dad do this but he is now 70 and has become so negative , intolerant and inpatient. Its so hardSad

MereDintofPandiculation · 13/08/2023 23:51

Could you perhaps ask him to wash his hands before touching the baby?

5foot5 · 14/08/2023 00:09

Could you ask your Mum too have a word?
