Pasta in a slow cooker?

Feisty1youare · 13/08/2023 18:16

Now bare with, I wouldn't normally dream of cooking pasta in a slow cooker, however our cooker died yesterday and I'm not in a position to replace it just yet. I mainly use the air fryer to cook things now, however pasta is a regular dish in our house and I'm wondering if I use could the slow cooker to do a tomato based pasta dish? Chuck it in about an hour before the dish is cooked? Has anyone tried it and had success

I once had a slow cooked lasagne at a play date. It was awful but the cook just put the mince in raw with tinned tomatoes, no seasoning and it bizarrely had baked beans and peppers in so...

Pasta takes9-12 minutes on the stove Confused why would you even use a slow cooker? It'll be mush, surely?!

If you read the first sentence of the OP, she states that her cooker has died. I would assume it it the whole thing, so no cooker/hob

Reading comprehension not a strong point?

I agree with previous posters about the Bored of Lunch slow cooker recipes

Mince is the only thing I fry before putting in the slow cooker! It boils it otherwise and tastes uncooked

Fajita Chicken Tagliatelle is lovely in the slow cooker - if you use fresh tagliatelle you cook the sauce all day then stir in the tagliatelle for the last 7-8 minutes, it comes out lovely, especially if you add grated cheese on top.

I do slow cooker lasagne a lot, it's one of our favourites!

Gnocchi in the air fryer does sound nice though, we often oven cook and it turns them almost into little roasties. Yum

I did slow cooker lasagne the other day and it was horrible. Stodgy and mushy.
Wonder how everyone has all these lovely lasagnes. Maybe I cooked it too long? Although was in less than the recipe said 😩
It was my first and probably last time doing pasta in the slow cooker.

Sorry OP I somehow completely missed the broken cooker comment!

Indian pasta dishes - yes as the pasta needs to be overcooked tor them. Italian pasta dishes - no because you will never get it al dente

If you put the pasta in about 45 minutes before the end and add a bit more water then it's cooked perfectly

I do a sausage pasta in the slow cooker. The recipe says to add the pasta half an hour before serving but I found that didn't cook it enough so I do 45 mins - 1hr and it's perfect.

I'll try 45 mins, I was thinking around 1 hour but I can always leave it for longer. I'll be at home so I can keep an eye on it. I just wanted to hear that others had tried it and it turned out OK, I don't like wasting food

As you don’t have the funds for a new cooker at present, do you think you could spare £20 to £30?

You could get hold of a double hot-plate on Amazon to tide you over for that price

Yes , I didn't even think of that. I don't even use the oven much these days , but I still need the hobs for the odd things. I'm not even sure if it's worth replacing the oven for the use I get out of it, one of those hot plates could be a good alternative.

I've not tried it, but I think orzo could work in the slow cooker, chuck it in 45 minutes before the end in something soupy

Bonfire23 · 14/08/2023 21:00

I saved this the other week, gnocchi lasagne in the air fryer
