Paranoid I've fallen for a scam

I'll preface this with I'm usually very aware but going through personal stuff at the moment so my guard is down.

I've been getting lots of legit emails of someone trying to access my email accounts - the automated Microsoft codes for sign on.

I was going through my emails this morning and saw that I had an email from 'Microsoft account team' in my junk folder saying that someone was trying to access my account and to 'click here' if it wasn't you to alert them to unusual activity.
Stupidly I clicked it and it sent an automated email to an account, all the email contained was text "report the user" to a random Gmail address.

I'm usually clued up with scams and phishing but i cant figure out what this one is trying to achieve? I've changed my password already.

It's probably just confirmed that yours is a real, active email address. You might get more spam now, but without you having provided more information, that's all it can do.

I stupidly clicked a link on one of those missed parcel ones, was running around after the kids and was actually expecting a parcel so yeah stupidly clicked the link, realised what id done as soon as it took me to a weird website and closed it.
Then i was getting calls from my bank fraud team!
Must have got my payment details off apple pay or something- I entered no details!

So just check your bank and stuff to be extra cautious x

Id change my apple password too if i you used an iphone to do it

Most of us have been there! X

Did you click on the email address of the sender? That’s usually a dead giveaway..

I was hoping it'd just be this but I'll keep an eye on my bank.

@W0tnow yes I even checked that, it must have been configured so you couldn't see it though as it just stayed as 'Microsoft account team'

That wasn't your bank fraud team that called you, it was the scammers. They phone you and tell you that because you put your bank details into the parcel website you are now at risk of fraud and you have to transfer all your money to a safe account to that they give you. Except it's not a safe account as it belongs to the scammers.
You were lucky because you didn't put your bank details in they wouldn't be able to fool you that your money was at risk and scam you.

It was my bank fraud team. I called them back from the number i know to be true to make sure.
It was the fact that i have apple pay on my phone that they managed to take a payment - flagged with the fraud team because it was abroad somewhere far, can't remember where now.

Well @KrisAkabusi you were right. About 20 junk emails a day started from that email address, all blocked and hopefully that'll be the end of it.

Lucky escape. A lesson never to let your guard down
