Hi
Would I be totally bonkers to carpet my kitchen floor? I have a cold house and basic vinyl flooring down. I am doing up my house and the thought fleetingly passed my mind.Has anyone done this? I will probably not but I wondered if anyone had any success or an I totally off my rocker even thinking of it?
Thank you

In the kitchen…yeah it sounds a bit barmy.

Food spills, carpet soaking in smells, is it really worth it?

Soubriquet · 11/08/2023 20:23

What about heated tiles if you can afford it?

Jeschara · 11/08/2023 20:23

I would not do it, it will get filthy, and it could harbour alot of kitchen smells.
Carpet has no place in the kitchen.

Urgh, disgusting!
ditto carpet in bathrooms 🤢

MissFlimpkin · 11/08/2023 20:24

Off your rocker. Don't even think about it.
Get some runner type rugs where you spend most of the time .

We actually had carpet in one of the houses we rented. It was nice getting out of the bath and having soft flooring under your feet. It wasn’t good when one of the pipes cracked and boiling hot water started to pour out. Took days for that carpet to dry

I carpeted my bathroom and kitchen in my very first flat 🫣 - I was 18 at the time and this was pretty normal in the 90's. I loved it at the time (no children, no pets), but it seems weird now though. Enough people on here hate the fact that some of us have a carpet in our living rooms .

tiredofthenoise · 11/08/2023 20:34

I wouldn't do that. Spills, smells, etc. Rugs are so much more practical to clean or replace as needed, or buy yourself some warm slippers to wear while you cook.

If you want carpet, take a look at Flotex. It's fully washable and you can scrub it if needs be. We had it in our bathroom years ago (for its non slip qualities) and it was fine.

MiniTheMinx · 11/08/2023 20:36

Can you not have a rug? Short pile that can be cleaned.

MiniTheMinx · 11/08/2023 20:38

I remember people having very thin rubber backed carpets. They were grim. But then it was also quite fashionable to carpet the bathroom including the side of the bath.

We had a carpetted kitchen in a student house and it was so embalmed in grease that the resident rats were eating it round the edges!

lousyatchoosingnames · 11/08/2023 21:10

Get a rug, there are washable ones

girlfriend44 · 11/08/2023 21:27

Carpet is a no go in the kitchen.
