Jewellers ruined wedding ring days before wedding

I am your typical stressed bride atm. Everything needs sorting and I'm trying to fit it in around a full time job. One of the jobs is to get my wedding ring resized as it doesn't fit as nicely as i had hoped.
Took it to a local jewellers for them to resize it for me. Brilliant. One less job on my list.

Only problem is, I've gone to pick it up and found that my once super shiny ring now resembles brushed aluminium. It literally could not get any more matt. Why they have messed about with the front with the diamond settings when resizing is done to the back is beyond me. But to rub salt in the wounds... the back of it remains shiny.

Someone please tell me this can be fixed. Of all the wedding, this was my only extravagance because I'll wear it forever. I am so upset and angry.

My wedding was the day of Storm Eunice last year... in a victorian greenhouse. Needless to say it didn't happen!! We rushed together a wedding at a different venue two weeks later (I was secretly 10 weeks pregnant and wanted to fit in my dress!!). Every single thing about our wedding was different from what we had planned but it was the most amazing day and at the end of it felt like that was the "right" wedding!

I don't even think about what our wedding "should have been" (though believe me I was heartbroken at the time). Your wedding will be beautiful, you'll make wonderful memories and I promise you won't care about the ring a year from now!!

I'm sorry this happened, op. Personally, I would be rather suspicious about these people and I would have my diamond checked with another jeweler after you get it back.

Did you get the ring altered at the same jewellers you bought it from?

As the ring is so special to you, I would get married with this ring in its current state, and get it sent off to be polished properly afterwards.

What kind of gold is it? I discovered after getting married that "white gold" isn't actually shiney. White gold rings will always lose their shine and go dull at the drop of a hat, as the shineyness comes from a thin layer of non-gold (sometimes Rhodium) on the surface to give it the shine that you expect - anything like resizing will always destroy that coating.

I agree with the comments about it not mattering however as this is your one extravagance I totally get it. On the day though I promise you won't get time to stop never mind show people your ring. My pre wedding stress was my bridesmaid dresses only just came on time to be altered (oh and I had a half arsed demoted maid of honour who is now my ex best friend but that's a whole other story lol). Best of luck with the wedding and just enjoy it
