To ask for healthy kenwood chef ideas?

I’ve been handed down an old but fully functioning kenwood chef. I’ve been told they are brilliant machines especially for baking. I’m not really into making cakes and the whole family are on a bit of a drive to eat healthily and lose a few pounds. Does anyone have any ideas for healthy foods I can make with it? Think low calorie, plant based etc . Many thanks.

Hmm, not really what it's designed for!
Has it got a blender attachment? Soup.
We have sourdough bread sitting in ours right now.

If you have the dough hook it's fab for bread and pizza dough

Aparecium · 11/08/2023 14:29

The dough hook makes excellent doughs.

What attachments does it have?

The mincer is excellent at crushing nuts and making pates of all sorts, from coarse to fine. I have made excellent vegetarian sausages (without casings) using the sausage maker.

The shredder is excellent for making coleslaw and sauerkraut. Any big grating or slicing jobs, really.

Three 'excellent's. Anyone would think I think my Chef is excellent Grin

(I do!)

I made some soft whole wheat bread rolls the other day and been making a lot of pizza dough (with added whole wheat flour)

also use it to make cakes..

Thank you all! Veggie sausages are one I hadn’t thought of. And I do plan on trying some healthy bread. I have the three main attachments of whisk, beater and dough hook plus it comes with a blender but I have one already. Most of what I’m reading about them is saying that they’re amazing but it seems mostly for CARBS which we’re trying to cut back on 😋

You can use the whisk to make additive-free mayonnaise.

As it's a vintage machine, you'll be able to buy good accessories for it on Ebay. That's where I get my accessories for my 20+ year old machine.

It makes light work of any mixing, kneading, chopping, blending, slicing, crushing job.

kenweirdchef · 11/08/2023 21:55

Thank you. Although mayonnaise is also high calorie 😫

True, but homemade can be a delicious source of healthy fats, without any stabilisers or preservatives.

CheersToMe · 11/08/2023 22:48

Any kind of dough.

Smoothies in the blender

Whisking meringues (ok so sugary but not as fatty as cakes)

And you can bake your own treats with normal ingredients instead of buying processed stuff.

A Kenwood Chef is basically a machine that mixes things! Saves your arms and is quicker, that’s about it. So think foods that you mix together, like mushroom pate, veg stuffing, doughs for flat breads, pittas etc, vegan cakes using sugar substitutes and so on.

As the bowl is quite big, they are not really suitable for small quantities.

To be honest, I’m not sure you will find many uses for one if you don’t want to make cake type recipes, a hand mixer is probably better for you.
