Would you be a Space Tourist?

If you had the money, would you go on one of the Space flights?
I was watching the news coverage of the Virgin Galactica flight yesterday thinking that no amount of money would get me up in one of those things. Especially after that submarine thing. I definitely get more risk averse as I get older.

I'd do space before I'd do that Titanic dive. Stuff of nightmares down at the bottom of the deep dark ocean.

You'd have to pay me to go into space though, millions probably. I definitely wouldn't pay to do it.

God no, the environmental cost is DISASTROUS

I would literally hate myself for that

StillWantingADog · 11/08/2023 12:10

Nope. Mostly because i’m a scaredy cat, am hopeless on a commercial plane.

but good for you if could. Felt happy for the Antiguan lady and her mum.

I should I add that I jumped out of a plane at 12,000 feet in my twenties. I’m clearly getting boring in my old age.

MolkosTeenageAngst · 11/08/2023 12:11

Definitely not, I get anxious at the thought of flying now and haven’t been on one since pre-covid. I definitely couldn’t cope in a spaceshuttle.

FrivolousTreeDuck · 11/08/2023 12:14

Not in a million years.

WestwardHo1 · 11/08/2023 12:15

No. Morally, it is repugnant.

Gellhell · 11/08/2023 12:17

Nope especially as there are so many beautiful things to see on this planet.

Yes, in a heartbeat.

The fraudulent deep sea company was an aberration. Nothing's perfectly safe but Blue Origin and Virgin Galactic appear to have competent engineers, they've done a lot of testing, and gone through approval processes. Blue Origin have the inherently safer design IMHO, for what it's worth.

Spaceflight and rocketry are demanding, and in virtually all countries they're heavily regulated (because space rocket tech is missile tech). A cowboy company is unlikely to get into space, and likely to get stopped by the authorities.

I would think twice before flying on a SpaceX rocket, but that's because Elon Musk is the world's richest dickhead, not because of any concerns about the rocket.

They aren't regulated that heavily in the US - most of the regulation as far as I can tell concerns the "involved public", so I think your claims are a bit ambitious.

Regulatory uncertainty as commercial human spaceflight takes off

As two companies prepare to begin or resume commercial suborbital human spaceflights, they face uncertainty about safety rules for those on board.

Sorry that should say "uninvolved public".

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 11/08/2023 12:24

No, there are other things I'd rather do if I had that sort of money to play around with. I'd probably do charitable stuff before spacing. When I was younger I probably would have.

JaneJeffer · 11/08/2023 12:50

I already am. I'm sitting here on a big round planet.
