To hide these when they go to bed.

Dp has bought our 2 ds bloody gel guns. They worked in the house to earn them. They are very excited to have them. But they accidentally shot me on the thigh and they have left 2 welts. I have concluded they are fucking lethal. I have insisted they wear goggles when playing, but I'm still worried me or someone else is going to get caught in the crossfire. Ive shut the pets away and I have retired to my room for safety. I don't want to be a killjoy. But would I be unreasonable to hide the bloody things when they go to bed? Kids are 7 and 11 for reference.

Gel blaster 'serious injury' warning as pellets shot 'could cause blindness'

EXCLUSIVE: Gel blasters are relatively inexpensive and can be purchased in toy shops and online - but they are also capable of inflicting nasty injuries.

If they’ve left a mark on you then I think it’s ok for them to be put away and only played with in a controlled way, so after they have asked, they can only play in the garden and you and the pets are safely out the way.

Hankunamatata · 10/08/2023 19:48

Def a put away toy and used supervised. Or just keep the pellets

SkankingWombat · 10/08/2023 19:50

I would be more inclined to do something to make the mechanism jam up overnight, then you can pass it off as poorly made (super glue dripped into a crucial moving part?). The DCs will be disappointed, but you can sympathise with their frustrations and don't have to suffer weeks of pretending to look for them.

VinEtFromage · 10/08/2023 19:57

Your boys are 7 & 11, not 2 & 6, you can't go pretending they're lost.

the look like trouble.

id be telling DH & the kids that they only for outdoor, supervised play with DH.

id offer them cash to trade in for the guns. (Due to the work they did to earn them, then sell them)

Thanks. I'm tempted to do as @SkankingWombat said but do will be pissed off. I've sent him off to talk to them about rules of engagement. And also give them a time limit then put them away. I'm tempted to confiscate the bloody ammo, especially if I have to go out and leave them with dp.

Willing to bet that if you left them with ammo and DP, by the time you came back, he'll have decided they're not such a great idea after all.

BlueBlubbaWhale · 10/08/2023 20:20

I'd be confiscating them. They are not suitable toys.

I think theyre a pile of shit. But they are so excited about the bloody things. Id be the bad guy.

New rule, target practice only, using them on another person gets them confiscated? Do you have a shed or anything they could draw targets on with chalk?

Winter2020 · 10/08/2023 21:13

Can they play with them with adult supervision shooting cans arranged with a barrier then a good high fence behind?

Does DP need to know that you've done it? If you need it to look less suspect, do one tonight and the other in a few days.
I also like the PP's idea of supervised (by DP) target practice only. Then it isn't dissimilar to how my friend and I used to shoot air rifles at the same age. We enjoyed drawing various targets (wibbly wobbly target shapes or aliens etc) and setting up a tin can alley. This would only be an option if I could be sure DP would adequately supervise and that DCs would stick to the rules.
