AIBU - unwell during pregnancy

Hi All,

Posting on AIBU for traffic.

Just some background, I've had hyperemisis throughout my pregnancy. I'm now 21 weeks 5 days and I still experience nausea and vomiting.

I've had a raised heart rate and been unwell with infection markers throughout the pregnancy but no one can pin point where the infection is located.

Since last night, I've been feeling really unwell. I've had diarrhoea and been to the toilet around 15 times since last night. I've been sick too but I suspect that's my hyperemisis.

My temp is raised and my heart rate is even more elevated than usual (even though it's been elevated throughout my pregnancy at 100-115 - but it is now between 125-145).

What should I do? Would I be wasting my GP's time if I was to go in and get seen? I feel like I need a drip!

Hey OP, midwife here. When you say they can't pin point the infection, have you had a full septic screen?

So:

Bloods
Throat swab
Vaginal swab
Stool sample etc
Covid tests.

With that set of observations, and a HR like that and a possible rising temperature, you would score at least 1 'red' score on an observation sheet, which would prompt an obstetric review within 30 minutes, and close monitoring of every 30 mins. Likely you would have an ECG, CTG monitoring of the baby (if 26 weeks +) or at least a listen into the HR, and possibly antibiotics to cover a possible infection, with more tailored treatment if anything came back on the bloods/swabs.

@USaYwHatNow Thank you for your response.

I've had a vaginal swab and bloods. Bloods have shown that there is an infection but as I don't have any burning during urination or anything like that they don't know where. Stool hasn't been tested. Had an ECG and under investigation with cardiology in regards to my raised HR.

I feel absolutely drained as my hearts beating like I've been working out and I'm just going to the toilet or being/feeling sick. It's awful.

Will call the GP at 2 (that's when they realise their PM appointments) but idk what else I could possibly do? x

I would give 111 a call as well, see what they say

Don't you have an emergency room at your midwife department that you can just torn up at? That would be much better than a GP

babyk2023 · 10/08/2023 13:30

@NewNovember the last time I turned up at triage I was told that the baby was fine and these symptoms are related to me so I should go to other services/professionals. However, a midwife before that said that anything related to mother or baby they will look at so not sure. I don't want to seem as though I'm being a pain if it's not directly liked to baby?

However, I do feel really dehydrated and I assume that will impact the baby?!

I would go to maternity unit at nearest hospital if I were you, OP, and do all my GP and 111 phone calls from there.
Don't get fobbed off.

Like pp says don't let them fob you off I would go to the maternity unit .

Every maternity unit should have a triage/day assessment unit/maternity assessment unit. Different places call them different things. Just because baby is okay doesn't mean they shouldn't see you. I'd push to be seen.

How are you doing now, OP? Hope you're feeling better and that you were able to get some help Flowers

Hello,

raised heart rate can be normal as baby is growing your heart needs to do extra work.

I had palpitations on and off throughout, had checked multiple times and everyone was fine with it.

However this could also be cause by dehydration, your heart needs to pump more cause your body is dehydrated and i suspect the water you are taking on is not staying in long.

HG can cause UTI as you’re not passing urine to flush out all the bacteria. I had number of these and one that actually lead to a kidney infection (was admitted) they ran tests and couldn’t say what it was as my white blood cell count had been high throughout pregnancy.

I bought some ketosis stick off Amazon to track where I was with dehydration, I was in on a drip 5 times from week 7-12. Sometimes your body needs to a good drink and HG stops us form
doing that so a drip maybe a good option.

Please don’t wait around to go GP if you are not right go to a&e, you will be seen quicker than most as you’re pregnant. You aren’t wasting anyone’s time, it’s time to put you and your LO first.

Thanks for the responses everyone.

I went to the GP that day and she wasn't very helpful. She said it might be viral and that she couldn't give me anything...

Still feeling the same in regards to the heart rate. My heart rate whilst washing up (I checked it because I was feeling really light headed) was 150. I'm starting to wonder if this is just a part of being pregnant for some women? I've been drinking a lot more to keep myself hydrated.
