LIGHTHEARTED: AIBU to have used these words?

Background: one of our sofa cushion covers needed washing. It has been washed and was dry.

I said to my husband "the sofa cover is dry" and pointed to it.

He looked really confused. I said it again and pointed to the cushion which is currently covered in a blanket a different colour to the sofa.

He said "oh, the cushion cover, you said sofa cover. I thought you meant something that covered the whole sofa".

My two children were in the room and understood what I meant.

He is adamant that what I said was wrong. He said "it's like saying you need to replace your car when you mean a tyre".

I said "it's like saying you need to replace a car window when you mean the windscreen but you can see that the windscreen is missing, damaged or broken".

Who is right?

AIBU?

Yeah he’s being annoyingly pedantic when he could see quite well what you meant. Even thought technically right, he’s morally wrong.

A ‘sofa cover’ would cover the sofa. So he was right.

I would have been confused too. Only for a moment but I would have had to work out what you meant.

Not to the extent of picking a fight about it but I think your choice of words was odd and confusing.

He's right.

This is the thing, these were the words that came out of my mouth, and given my gestures and the gap of the sofa where the cover should go. It should have been enough. He is always telling me I use the wrong words. I ask him a question, and he will say something, and I will elaborate and he will say that is a different question. It's exhausting. I would never pick him up on the way he phrases a sentence
