Neighbour's Cats Cr*p

Anxiousmuch · 09/08/2023 15:21

Our next door neighbour has 3 pretty awful cats.
At least two, probably all 3 of them, (they look the same to me) do their shi*ts in our back garden. They seem to do loads, all over the garden
I've tried all the anti cat alarms and lion wee etc but they're tough little bu**ers who see my garden as their public toilet territory
I really resent that

  1. They aren't my pets and yet I have to clear up their mess....would love to see my neighbour's reaction if my toddler did a dump in his rose bed
  2. They don't do it in one place. Every morning I have to play hunt for the poo before putting out my washing /letting my children play in our garden and it stinks
  3. My neighbours don't seem to care where their cats defecate (if I did own a cat I would at least train it to use a litter tray ) . Dog owners rightly have to take responsibility for their pets mess but cat owners seem to have a free pass to let their pets poo wherever they like

Is it unreasonable to ask my neighbours to come into our back garden to clean up after their pets ?

Why do we let cats crap everywhere as a society ??I just don't get it 😂

You can't force the owners to pick it up - I mean, you can ask but don't be surprised if they say no.

Cats have the right to roam in this country unfortunately. Personally I think that cats should be kept on their owners property - either indoors, in a catio or in a cat-proofed garden. It's really odd that we allow pets to basically do what they want with zero consequence.

Youdoyoutoday · 09/08/2023 15:26

Id start throwing it over the fence and get a water gun to get the cats with, that's how I stopped the neighbours cat crapping in my flower pots!

ilovesooty · 09/08/2023 15:30

You are allowed to use common terms without the asterisks.

Cats have a right to roam and aren't controlled like dogs. Use humane methods to discourage them and if you know the cats responsible, of course ask their owner to clear up.

Desdemona44 · 09/08/2023 15:30

My cat is indoor only so uses a litter tray, but if she was outdoors I would happily go and collect her poos from neighbours gardens. I would ask them and if they refuse get a water pistol. Or your could plant loads of cat nip, if the cats see your garden as their chill out stoner pad they will poo in someone else's garden.

Desdemona44 · 09/08/2023 15:32

Also I think cats, being nature's trolls, have a sixth sense about pooing in the garden that will cause most consternation, so of you chill out about it more it might stop 😆

mummymeister · 09/08/2023 15:35

If you know for certain it is their cats shit, then do what I did when our neighbours cats kept doing it in our garden. every single time, I picked it up with a plastic spade and hoiked it over the fence. eventually they realised this and came round and asked me to stop. told them I would stop when their animals stopped shitting in my garden. they got the message and put carpet gripper on the top of the fence between us so cats couldnt easily get in. I tried everything too, including the water pistols but the little bstards used to do it when I couldnt get to them quickly enough. I was at home on mat leave so knew it was their cats as I saw them. totally unacceptable and one of the reasons I absolutely hate cat owners that allow this to happen.

I've noticed this problem has entirely disappeared since I got a terrier.

Now I only have to pick up poo that belongs to my animal, not other people's 😂

MrsTerryPratchett · 09/08/2023 15:37

Motion activated sprinklers.

Or borrow a terrier.

LOL x-post.

Can OP borrow your dog?

Reugny · 09/08/2023 15:38

Get yourself a dog, there are breeds who don't like long walks, or a tom cat.

I used to live in a shared house with cats and the tom cat ensured no other cat came into our large garden.

jannier · 09/08/2023 15:50

My gardens full of fox pooh. That's awful stuff to clean-up

Meeting · 09/08/2023 15:54

You need to throw it over the fence into their garden.

Hivaluegirl · 09/08/2023 18:31

Who will pick up foxes poo?
It's annoying but every one gotta go and unfortunately the cats know it annoys you.

Hivaluegirl · 09/08/2023 18:35

Please don't take the advice to throw it over the fence. You don't know how these neighbours will react.
Just get sprinklers, plant lavender/mint/orange peel

DaisyAndDonaldDuck · 09/08/2023 18:37

YANBU and if they refused I would bag it all up and post it through their letterbox. It’s their shit after all.

I would also be taking other measures to keep said pests out and I’m certain the owners wouldn’t like that.

Barney60 · 18/09/2023 10:40

These dont work ,believe me ive tried them ALL

noisecancellingheadphones · 18/09/2023 11:25

The only thing thats ever worked for me is a motion activated water sprayer. My poor lawn and flower beds would be covered in it but since i installed one of these i have had no problems at all.

I tried every other tactic like the ultrasonic things, different smelling plants etc, nothing else works.

Bingo for the first mention of foxes on a cat shit thread.

Foxes aren’t owned by the neighbours. Hardly the same as being expected to be responsible for your own pets is it?
