Name changed for this!

So many people want to know what they can do to protect the environment, maybe this is something?

If you join VoteClimate, they contact you before the election and tell you which candidate in your constituency has the best environmental policies. You promise to vote for them - of course they can't make you, and they won't know if you did or didn't. but in principle, you promise to vote for their recommendation, and they contact you before the election with their recommendation.

As so many thousands of people have joined, and made the promise, VoteClimate are able to approach political parties and inform them how they are performing on climate issues, and how many people have joined VoteClimate in each constituency, and how they will be recommended to vote.

Potentially, a very powerful influence for the good in terms of persuading political leaders to choose environmentally positive policies. Winning VoteClimate's recommendation is worth thousands of votes

AIBU to join and to promise my vote ( I fully intend to keep my promise, unless I am recommended someone stupid like the National front, or similar, which I think is highly unlikely

YABU - no, don't give anyone else power to choose how you vote
YANBU - yes, this could give tens of thousands of people concerned about the environment a powerful and united voice.

Don't most people consider more than one issue before deciding how to vote?

Pix56 · 07/08/2023 22:48

Having a clean planet is not much good to my kids if they've starved to death. I'll be voting for whoever helps to keep food on the table.

Yawn! 🙄

Next!

There is no party which is doing anything about the climate.

Net Zero! Fuck off, it's just a revenue raising greenwash.

Electric Vehicles! Fuck off, absolutely toxic and poison for the environment. Ut don't let a little research get in the way of your Eco Ego.

VoteClimate! 😂

I think that I can check the policies of my local candidates myself, thanks.

GPEW are obviously a write-off in most areas though, the planet hardly gets a look in at their conferences. Also seems to consist more of NIMBYs opposed to any development rather than people who would back schemes that provide clean energy and transport.

https://voteclimate.uk/about/ben_horton.htm

Is this the guy who is going to rank manifesto pledges and advise us on how to vote? Good to know he has a maths degree and runs a tech business but not sure how that qualifies him to advise on climate change
policy. He supports XR, JSO and Insulate Britain which places another question mark over his credibility.

I can't find a "Who Are We" section on the website. Have I missed an army of climate change scientists and climate change economists who are far better qualified than Ben?

Do you have any better ideas?

I’m grateful for the link, OP. I’ve never voted green but am now at the point where environmental policy is likely the most important factor in determining my future vote. Admittedly I’m not sure if voting green in a seat they are unlikely to win is the most sensible step, so this may be a useful point of reference.

SmoothSeasDoNotMakeGoodSailors · 07/08/2023 23:17

The problem is so many people see environmental policies as being against their comfortable lives and actively vote against them. I am in the extended ULEZ area and the vitriol against Khan is at best scathing and racist at worst. Then there was the recent thread about what would you do to mitigate climate change and so many people were saying nothing.

SmoothSeasDoNotMakeGoodSailors · 07/08/2023 23:18

Gosh, 36 followers on FB! They need to do a lot more campaigning!

VoteClimate · 08/08/2023 05:51

I wasn't aware they were on facebook. Do you have a link?
