AIBU to be madly in love with my reflection and want the same for everyone else

Ok so some context -

I battled cancer two years ago and became utterly unrecognisable. I was sore, sad and scared.

Now I look at myself in the mirror and want to lick my reflection.

I don't expect everyone to look at me and think the same. In fact I am sure many people look at me and think shame she doesn't lose a couple of stone or see a plump middle aged woman or most likely don't even look at me. But I don't give a shit!

Because I look at myself and think wow, look at that thick bouncy hair, look at that smile and those sparkly eyes, look at those shapely legs, look at those fabulous curves.

It is the best feeling and you need nobody's permission to have it. So I implore all of you, forget your perceived flaws, find your fabulous and celebrate it.

Oops posted too soon. I made a PERSON. Three people, actually. We should all definitely appreciate our bodies more.

What a lovely uplifting post, thank you.

LOVE this! I'm going through breast cancer treatment and I struggle to like my reflection right now. No hair, no eyebrows, feel like I've aged a decade. I hope to feel the way you do when this treatment is all done x

I feel you, believe me. Your only job is to get through this but know that it will end and you will be out the other side stronger than you ever knew. X

Great post - good for you! I'm 51 and have times when I feel pretty positive about my body/looks. And yes, agree with you @MadamBuxton - I think it's related to my general mood and probably hormone levels at the time, rather than whether I objectively happen to be looking better or worse that day! I think I'm also at an age where I'm a less harsh critic of myself in that respect because I don't feel the pressure or judgement I did as an insecure teenager.

As always I could do with losing a bit of weight, but my feelings about that seem to have finally died down to an occasional background mutter rather than a constant source of dissatisfaction! And, interestingly enough, that let-up doesn't seem to have made me put on any weight, which just goes to show how pointless it was to berate myself about it all those years!

Your post brought a tear to my eye!
My daughter has cancer , she has currently finished treatment although we don’t know the outcome yet . She looks so much better finally and is full of beans, I looked at her and thought how beautiful she is the other day !

After suffering from acne for 20 years, I still haven’t got over the novelty of actually liking my face. Looking in the mirror and not being horrified/depressed is still such a weird (but nice!) experience.

That feeling happened to me once. I can remember vividly where I was and who I was with. I looked in the mirror in a restaurant bathroom and thought- my hair is gorgeous! It was 1993. Summertime.
