To want to call head office on him?

Hi all
My boyfriend went to the cinema last week for a private premiere and lost his brand new AirPods. He went to lost and found and was told by the manager nothing had been handed in.

Come today, they have pinged up their location at a house. After some serious internet sleuthing (ancestry/bt phone book etc) we have found the Facebook profile of the man who lives at the address.

And guess what? He has listed on Facebook that he is the manager of the exact cinema my boyfriend lost his AirPods at.

Essentially the manager has taken my boyfriend's AirPods out of lost and found and taken them home with him to keep.

My boyfriend is not sure what to do, shall we speak to head office about this? Shall we just contact him directly? My boyfriend doesn't really want to get him fired but to be honest I worry how many people this manager has done this to and it's clearly just an abuse of power.

We have all the proof and screenshots etc of their location at his address.

Police (probably only get a ref no) head office and social media. I'd throw it all the wall. Cheeky bastard.

rwalker · 06/08/2023 06:01

You need to email asking them to check again then you have proof you asked about them being lost refer to original conversation
And date
print email and screenshots of location and details proving manager lives there

you can go down head office route or if you don’t want him sacked/ disciplined
go and confront him

Oysterbabe · 06/08/2023 06:17

Yes, police and head office.
Is he an idiot? Everyone knows airpods are easy to track.

Dinojump · 06/08/2023 06:23

This guy deserves to lose his job. He is a thief. And very untrustworthy.

Go to the police and head office. Then demand a free cinema subscription as comp!

LaurieFairyCake · 06/08/2023 06:27

Do it like this?

"Ah I can see from my pods pinging at your home address you've found my air pods, thanks for keeping them safe for me. I will come to the cinema to get them today"

That gives him a way out so you actually get them back. The police are unlikely to visit to get them unfortunately.

MRex · 06/08/2023 06:51

Go to the police with proof the air pods belong to you and proof of their location. Contact head office once the police have recovered them, otherwise it's just hearsay and they can't do anything.

Same thing happened to us with a hotel chain. Told them in no uncertain terms that I could see the exact address they had gone to, and if I didn't have a phonecall that evening saying they had been posted back to me I would be making my way to that address.

Funnily enough I recieved them special delivery the following day.

I still wrote to head office and put a review online though, it isn't acceptable at all.

FloofCloud · 06/08/2023 07:10

This manager is clearly an idiot! Good luck with whatever you chose to do

WILTYjim · 06/08/2023 07:13

The police will do naff all. Don’t waste your time with them.

red78hot · 06/08/2023 07:18

Can you go to his house and politely ask for them back? If he tries to deny it, explain the tracking shoes he has them and you will got to the police, head office etc.
My friend had his bike stolen, reported to police, he found it on ebay being sold in parts, told the police who said nothing they could do, once he told them he would go to the guys house then and sort it out himself the police were straight on it!

report 100%, he’s a thief. Don’t let him get away with it.

Olika · 06/08/2023 07:55

Report him. It's a theft

User56785 · 06/08/2023 07:59

Have any of you 'report it to the police' posters ever reported anything to the police? Where I live in Nottingham they don't even do anything for burglaries never mind leaving your AirPods at the cinema and someone taking them.

I'd report him to his own head office but in the meantime I'd do what Laurie said. Or go round and knock on his door.

Yep.
I caught my cleaner with her hands in my bag. I called the police and they came immediately on blue lights and arrested her. She was convicted and had to pay me £23 in compensation.

AlisonDonut · 06/08/2023 08:16

I'd message the venue on social media but not reveal the screen shot of his house or address.

And I'd say I was coming at 5pm this evening, and if they were not handed back to me I'd be going public with the information.

I saw my neighbours car been stolen from their drive in the middle of the day and I phoned the police and they said 'how does this affect you personally' which has become a catchphrase in our house.

Anyway, the police didn't come and two days later the house was broken in to. Still nobody came out,

I'd go and get them back, then I'd report the whole thing to head office (with screen shots) and hope he gets the sack.

MariaVT65 · 06/08/2023 08:59

I’d contact Head Office, hopefully they will sack him but it may also lead to some hush compensation as well as getting your pods back if you agree not to go to media or police.

enumbers · 06/08/2023 09:00

I know it sounds mad but there might be an innocent explanation!
One of my relatives lost an iPhone while he was in hospital and we tracked it to a business address.

When we rang the business and compared details, the owner told us their relative who had dementia had been in hospital at the same time. Somehow the iPhone had ended up in a hospital bag which was now sitting in the owner's car boot. We had no reason to doubt the owner as he was very embarrassed by it all and very willing to bring it back to us.

JMSA · 06/08/2023 09:30

Whatever you do - whether it be report him, turn up at his door, call the police or whatever - I wouldn't give him advance warning. He'll only get rid of the AirPods and you'll never see them again.

I'd take this route as well. He's a cheeky thieving bastard, but this is the way of low-confrontation.
This would give him a back-out AND a shock - and hopefully he'll see how easy this would be for you to escalate.

If no response, it's time to throw everything at the wall. Go nuts on social media. He'll lose his job, but if you gave him the previous Out, and he didn't take it - tough titties.

nowaynorway · 06/08/2023 09:54

So that he doesn't think you're stalking him (as you know his address) and to get him worried that his colleagues know what he's done, I'd be tempted to say:

"Your colleague has kindly been looking for my AirPods too and has been in touch with me to advise that are showing up as being at your house. I'm pleased you've found them. Please contact me so that I can arrange to come into your work to collect them"!

Hopefully this will make him sweat as he won't know which colleague, ie it could have been his manager!
