Ulcer/sore teeth

Has anyone had this happen? I have a an ulcer right on my gum line, basically infront of my two front teeth and it’s making my teeth ache so so much. Im nesrly 5 weeks post partum so I dunno if it’s to do with hormonal changes. Im worried cos my
mum has advanced gum disease and only has about 5 teeth left in her gums! Does this sound familiar to anyone or should I be worried? The ulcer isn’t as painful really in itself I think it’s just where it is making my gums hurt and my two teeth 😩😩

Could it be an abscess rather than an ulcer? Abscess needs looking at by your dentist ASAP; it won't resolve by itself.

How long have you had it? I sometimes have mouth ulcers, they can be really painful and can make my teeth ache, but they go away on their own. I find the Corsodyl spray helpful at speeding them on their way and reducing discomfort, if you're able to use it.

I get mouth ulcers all the time when I'm tired and run down. I find the only thing that works is Anbesol.

MBailey99 · 05/08/2023 22:46

Can you take a photo? Usually fairly easy to tell an abscess from an ulcer. Understand that you may not want to post a photo online though.

Purplestorm83 · 05/08/2023 22:49

I used to get mouth ulcers all the time and then I read on the nhs website that switching to a toothpaste without sls could help, I switched and haven’t had one since

candycrush789 · 05/08/2023 23:21

Sorry for the absolute revolting photo. It’s white like an ulcer and the two teeth around it ache, and so do my gums 😩 it’s in such a shit place too! I’m hoping it’s just ulcer related and nothing else. I take good care of my teeth so I’d be devastated. I’ve had it now for about 4 days xx

Do it feel squishy when you press on it?

isitaline97 · 05/08/2023 23:41

I've certainly had an ulcer on my gum, it was quite big and sat in the crease of my gum/inside bottom lip it was such a horrible place! So it could well be an ulcer. I used to get them all the time and like a PP said since switching from toothpaste containing sodium laureth sulfate I've been much better. Also try not to eat any acidic food Les such a tomatoes etc until healed. I second Anbesol it numbs it a little to make them more bearable. If it's not showing signs of reducing within a week or it gets worse since having it maybe consult a doctor/dentist just in case? Hope you feel better soon ulcers are horrible 😩

I am not a dentist but I know pregnancy can cause problems with your teeth / gums (which is why you get free dental care on NHS when pregnant and 12 months after). My dentist recommended Corsodil while I was pregnant. That's now my go to for any problems before seeing the dentist (unless obvious e.g. broken tooth). Superdrug has their own version slightly cheaper- same active ingredients.

Bluelightbaby · 06/08/2023 00:00

It’s definitely and ulcer not an abscess . Ulcers on the frenum are often caused by trauma. They can make your teeth ache but will only affect your teeth if the pain is making you unable to brush that area. Nothing a dentist could do, so save your money and use anbesol or other ulcer treatments instead.

ToxicBiennial · 06/08/2023 00:11

def ulcer from that. Dentist can prescribe hydrocortisone buccal tablets that you put in your mouth and sort of hold against the ulcer.. if you’re desperate and it’s really sore and going on for days.

Clemmie4 · 06/08/2023 00:13

ex dental nurse here - try a warm water mixed with salt, try and tilt you head forward to hold in in the area where the ulcer is for no more than a minute.
Do you have any bonjela? if so treat the area with the gel before bed.
Why not book in as a precaution with your dentist, just incase you have to wait several days to get an appointment.
If the ulcer is healing well than you can always cancel the appointment few days before.

I can tell you after working as a dental nurse for many years, the photo of your teeth is most certainly not disgusting! It's clear you take oral hygiene seriously.

Giving up gluten stopped me getting ulcers

candycrush789 · 06/08/2023 04:52

I feel so dramatic cos it’s an ulcer but it’s so painful and it where it is too which is annoying. I’ve never had one here and it’s painful. I’ve bought some special mouthwash so I’m hoping it clears. I’ve been doing salt water rinsed but it hasn’t helped at all 😩

Op if you can pick some bonjela up today and apply it over the area I think you will be surprised how quickly it helps to heal it plus it also numbs the area making it more comfortable for you.
I had one on the inside of my cheek and felt like I was constantly catching it when eating and talking, it was so irritating.
