To be so annoyed at myself - diet

Eyupluv · 05/08/2023 21:44

I’ve been on a diet and have been doing pretty well after some awful eating habits. My weights been up and down throughout the years. Binge eating then restricting most things from my diet.

I decided I need to make a change once and for all and was doing well but today I’ve ruined it and over eaten. I’m so annoyed at myself. Just feel like I will never be able to do this.

Don't punish yourself. Start fresh tomorrow, all is not lost. You feel bad now but you were happy with your progress before. Have a healthy breakfast tlmo, go for a walk and get back to the good habits. It is really hard to change. One slip up is not the end!

It's only one day, in the big picture, nothing at all. Don't beat yourself up. I know how hard it is, I lost over 70kgs but have regained it all plus some. If I'd offer one tip it would be drink plenty water, tea/coffee without sweetener or milk..

Issuefroth · 05/08/2023 21:48

Write out as much as you can remember what led to the overeating today, consider how it could be avoided next time. Draw a line under it and start fresh tomorrow. If you find yourself overeating during the day, start again at the next meal.
You’re still doing well

underneaththeash · 05/08/2023 21:48

Don’t buy the things that make you overeat!
you’ll get used to it.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 05/08/2023 21:48

One day doesn't ruin anything! If you have a bit of a crap work day or parenting day, you haven't ruined your whole career and you don't give up on being a parent. Don't beat yourself up, just be kind to yourself and get back on it tomorrow!

Coffeeandcherrypie · 05/08/2023 21:50

The key is to get back in the saddle again immediately, don’t let it ruin your hard work to date.

I low carb and have had 2 carb rich meals this week. After each meal, I had water and went straight back into low carb meals for breakfast the next day.

A year ago I would have used a blip as an excuse to give up and overeat for months.

CandyflossKaren · 05/08/2023 21:52

What have you overeaten today?

DrManhattan · 05/08/2023 22:06

It's not what you eat on one day it's what you eat every day that makes the difference.

jazzyjane565 · 05/08/2023 22:07

This is basically my life on repeat. I am so predictable.

JaceLancs · 05/08/2023 22:08

It’s one meal! Or one bad day!
start again tomorrow - just keep at it - don’t beat yourself up about it at least you are trying
every day I cut back is a day nearer to being the weight I want to be
in the past i managed to lose over 8 stone so I know how hard it is

GeorgeMichaelWasHere · 05/08/2023 22:11

Restriction in any form causes cravings and potentially overeating or bingeing.

Hi @Eyupluv awww please don't be annoyed at yourself, we've all been there. You've done so well and will continue to do so xx

mistermagpie · 05/08/2023 22:22

You haven't ruined it, one swallow doesn't make a summer and all that. Get back on the wagon tomorrow and forget about today. The fastest route to actually ruining a diet is to think one bad day is the end, so what's the point. Get out of that mindset and move on.

It's just one day. You're doing really well.

FinallyHere · 05/08/2023 23:26

Low carb and https://eatingless.com together have been brilliant for me.

mondaytosunday · 06/08/2023 00:49

Tomorrow is another day. I have been Intermittent fasting and calorie counting for a month, but in that time I went away for a mini break eating out three meals a day and another time celebrated my sons birthday which involved a bbq and cake and the next day KFC! Still managed to lose 10lbs as the good days outweighed the four/five days of eating too much, and the 'too much' was still not outrageous- I had the salad and rice chicken filet combo at KFC for example, and logged it in to my food diary.
Just do not use this slip as an excuse to give up -this time next year you will be a year older and do you still want to be the same weight?

Watchkeys · 06/08/2023 15:40

You haven't ruined anything. Have you ever been ill and not eaten much for a day or two? Did you think it would 'ruin' or even impact on your gradual weight gain over the years, or did you just lose a lb or two and know it'd come right back when you started eating again?

Eating well isn't about how long you can avoid eating poorly. It's about looking at all the choices you make, all the time, and maximising your abilities to make as many good choices as possible. The quicker you get back on the horse, the better. That's your next good choice: move on healthily and without punishing yourself. Everyone eats crap sometimes.
