To find 5 the worst age??

Dd is 5 and her behaviour is the worst it's ever been. Tantrums every day about nothing and nothing works to end them.
We thought it was the pressure of starting school and tiredness but it's continued straight into the summer holidays and it's ruining the summer. She can be having a great time and everyone is happy then at the flick of a switch she's screaming became she didn't get her own way over something trivial e.g. it's time for lunch so she has to stop playing. We've always had clear boundaries so nothing has changed in that sense. At different points this year I've tried withdrawing treats / offering rewards / just offering a cuddle / ignoring her while tantrumming and nothing ever works. I feel like enrolling her in a summer camp so someone else can deal with the shit show and then I feel awful for not being able to enjoy the summer together. Please tell me there are ways of stopping the tantrums or at least that after 5 she'll be fun again?!

Girls can become very hormonal really early on. My daughter is 6 and the past year has been tough. I try to remember that when they’re behaving like that they’re not trying to give you a hard time, they’re HAVING a hard time. It’s really tough but like every stage it will pass.

That's a good way of framing it thanks. I guess working on my frustration about it all might be effective too.
But I'd really like to find a way to reduce the frequency or length of the tantrums too as I'm not the only one affected.

I agree. Hoping six is better...😂

Judging by my daughter and her friends it can be very normal. They all seem to be very over sensitive and can turn at the flick of a switch with lots of friendship dramas. My 4yo pre-schooler is much more chilled than the 7yo.

I’ve found the following:
reception: tiredness can really affect some of them- think in this year it was much more about spillover from trying to be good on school and needing a break out of it.
y1/2 friendship dramas - I don’t think they have the emotional intelligence to process falling-outs etc and girls can be pretty mean but it doesn’t take much to spill into crying/tantrums etc.

My 5 year old is out of control right now, ive been gobsmacked. I thought I was the only one as she has a new sibling but her behaviour has morphed. She's so angry when things don't go her way and frequently calls me stupid mummy. Solidarity

Oh no, I can't face friendship dramas yet 😱 I'm really missing the nursery years except that when she's in a good mood she's amazing company.

Sympathy for everyone else at this stage - I had no idea it was a pattern
