To record or transcribe all teams call in a remote job?

I work remotely from home for a large (500ish staff) company. Although I enjoy my role and the company, my team act less professional than others including my manager.

I get the feeling a few of them don't like me because I prioritise professional (and I really mean the bare minimum like not slagging of customers in the teams chat, making suggestions for improvement etc) over making friends.

AIBU to record using the transcribe function on teams every call I have to ensure if shit ever hits the fan I am protected. I will make sure to keep things distant and professional.

I’d bet your company has some policy against this even if you did tell your colleagues.
Unless you’re my boss then you’ve no business monitoring me, I’d leave the call.

I work in data protection. As others have said, you cannot do this without notifying everyone on the call that you're going to be recording them. It's one of the principles of GDPR that data processing has to be "transparent".

I think if you are that concerned about this then it’s time to start looking for another job.

What exactly are you trying to solve here? You want to protect yourself, you want the behavior to stop, or something else.

None of what you describe is really that outside of the norm. It’s honestly pretty common to joke or vent about less than stellar customers. Being friendly, engaging in light banter with coworkers (and manager) is encouraged in most workplaces.

Is there more to it?

It seems like you’re hoping to stitch someone up rather than protect yourself, it seems like an oddly aggressive move for someone who’d rather not engage in office politics.

Absolutely agree. It does sound rather petty and vindictive. I would never agree to this.

Our teams calls can be very laid back if it’s just internal people but so what? We’re not corporate robots and allowed some fun at work

I don’t really understand the point of this - are you saying that you’d want evidence that you hadn’t said any unprofessional things? I doubt that any manager or HR person is going to want to sit through hours of recordings just to make sure that you’re not saying anything.

Plus the fact that you’re recording everyone would probably cause a secondary HR issue for you.

Sounds like the culture is wrong for you and it’s best to move elsewhere.
