Crystal2257 · 03/08/2023 05:32

Hi
i am searching for a used automatic car I’m just wondering what small family hatchbacks have that park assist thing where the car helps or does the parallel parking for you .
I don’t have a huge budget so please keep this in mind when suggesting what car .
many thanks

I have park assist on my Toyota Corolla Hybrid. I wouldn't rely on it, it's not that good.

You're far better off parking it yourself.

I have park assist on my Toyota prius plus... never used it....no idea how!! I jist park.

EmmaDial · 03/08/2023 06:49

My Skoda Karoq has it as standard on the rear, previous owner had added it for the front. It is Wonderful! £15,000 present price.
Some Kia have had it for a while I think.

We don't know your budget so cannot keep it in mind when suggesting.

You can use park assist as a keyword when searching on auto trader. Or find out what "packs" or specs include this. A lot of cars will have it.

It's not that good, I'd pay for some additional lessons rather than forking out.

The one on my Skoda is very inclined to avoid risk, when the indicator shows red there is still a gap of about 9 inches. It also shows the angle of the wheels and likely track of the car whilst in reverse at slow speeds and it turns the radio down so as not to distract me.

AngelicInnocent · 03/08/2023 07:02

Get one with a reversing camera instead. Much better

grass321 · 03/08/2023 07:15

I have it on my Range Rover. I've used it once.

You have to go past really slowly and line it up exactly. By the time you've done that, and had to reverse and drive forward again as it's not activated, there's a long queue of cars getting impatient.

Are you thinking about park sensors?

Park assist isn't a front/rear thing, it's where the car parks itself!

OP I have it on my car and was really excited to get it but tbh I never use it now, the first few weeks I did but I can park the car better. It leaves me almost a foot from the kerb on a parallel

Ah yeah that's juts rear camera.

I have park assist. Tried it once. Too nerve wracking to try it again.

AngelsWithSilverWings · 03/08/2023 07:21

My little Mercedes A class has it. We used it once ,just it test it, in an almost empty carpark but I'm too cautious to use it for real. The reverse parking cameras are fine for parking .

The absolute best car I ever had for parking was a Nissan qashqai. The 360 parking camera with birds eye view made parking anywhere so easy. No car I've had since has been as easy to park.

I agree with this. I have one on my Toyota, it does make parking and reversing a lot easier.

BIWI · 03/08/2023 07:35

Why do you need it? Do you have problems parking?

EmmaDial · 03/08/2023 07:36

@homeforme , Yes you are right, sensors. In my old fashioned way I did not realise that those systems had been in production.

BertieBotts · 03/08/2023 07:45

It depends on the package the original buyer opened for, it's not the kind of thing which is specific to a model.

As others have said you can check in the advanced filter and specify this in the options on second hand car sites.

Also agree it's not that good, especially in the UK. They are all designed for massive American or German car parks with large bays that are clearly marked. They don't work as well on tiny narrow spaces with dilapidated markings. And it takes forever and sometimes gets confused. We used it a handful of times and then it was easier to park ourselves.

Nissan Quashqai (can't spell it)
