End of tenancy clean

Been quoted £200 for an end of tenancy clean (3 bed). DM is saying it's too much. I looked online and it seems about right but she's insisting it's too much and I should do it myself or with her. I have a 3m old and very hyperactive 4-year-old. I'm burnt out and I just CBA! Is it too much? Am I just lazy?

If you can afford it, have it. You don’t run the risk of losing your deposit for something daft related to cleaning, plus who wants to thoroughly clean somewhere and not get the benefit?

It takes a lot of effort to clean a house to a professional level. And for an end of tenancy, they do everything including the oven windows etc. I would pay it. Then you know it's done right and if your landlord quibbles about the cleaning you'll have some comeback with the cleaning company. You won't if you do it yourself.

Sounds right to me.
as you say, it’s not just about getting the house clean - it’s buying yourself that time back and a little reprieve - which is vital as moving house is already stressful enough without little ones in the mix.

I paid around that, that’s definitely around average. It was well worth it

I’d pay the money, in the past I’ve done it myself and then lost money on deposit because agent didn’t feel it was up to standard. Last time we found out who agents used and used them.

Sounds like good value. We paid £350 for a four bed (including carpet shampoo and oven clean) which seemed a lot so we elected to do it ourselves the next time and I so regret that! It took two of us 1.5 five hour days to clean, so felt like a massive waste of annual leave. And we could have spent the time settling into our new home instead.

Also, end of tenancy cleaners often offer a 'guarantee' so if you don't get all the deposit back for something cleaning related they'll either go and clean again or give you some money back.

I definitely wouldn't even consider doing it myself with children around! It's boring, it takes ages, you need to do things with chemicals like clean the oven. You don't want the mop bucket knocking over. You end up with a smaller and smaller part of the house not cleaned where they'd have to be, and you don't want them making a mess in the bit you've done!

Of course, if your DM is offering to do it for you, without your involvement, take her up on it Wink

It takes HOURS to do a decent thorough clean. We're not just talking vacuuming, dusting and surface wiping!

The amount seems reasonable - I assume that includes giving the oven a good clean??

Make sure you get a receipt then if the LL quibbles anything after the tenancy about the state of the property you can show it has been done properly.

Curtains70 · 02/08/2023 14:58

I did my last one myself and it took me nearly 2 full days and I still paid somebody £50 to do the oven. If you can afford it then I'd just pay.

BillaBongGirl · 02/08/2023 14:59

That’s an average rate.
