To dislike the phrase, 'He had his head turned'?

Something people say without thinking I believe. Seen a lot on these pages when a husband or partner is suspected of or confirmed as cheating.

The poor wee men eh? They had no part to play in these scenarios. It was all the fault of the OW who turned his head.

No. HE turned his head. All on his own.

You are right it implies the blame lies with the other person usually a woman

I dislike it, too. He didn't 'have his head turned'. Poor wee lamb, no wicked woman tried to get him and he had to give in. No. He was on the lookout for extra shags his entire worthless fucking life. It was entirely his fault. He knew perfectly well he was married. He thought about, fantasised about, planned and executed his plot to stick his sausage in another roll. His fault, not the other woman's and certainly not the fault of the wife.

But all of us can get a boost when someone maybe compliments us or finds us fun to be with
no one gets far into a relationship without seeing how it can be tempting

CleverLilViper · 01/08/2023 14:04

Totally agree. It removes responsibility from the man and places the blame on the OW.

Angryappendix · 01/08/2023 14:05

Who actually days that though unless you’re on Love Island?

Most people I know would say he had an affair or cheated on his wife as the common phrase.

Seen it on two different threads here today which is why I posted

I don't mind it but not in the context of cheating. I know sometimes I've had a reaction to a man who would (if I was single) be totally my type.

It's the follow through that's the crime and I don't consider that having your head turned.

Calvinlookingforhobbes · 01/08/2023 15:19

OP I read it on a thread earlier and shuddered! It’s an antiquated saying that has no place!

Aquamarine1029 · 01/08/2023 15:20

I think most people who use the phrase agree that it is 100% the man's fault, it's just a easy phrase to mean he is interested in another woman.
