To ask for shampoo recommendations for fine coloured hair

I have fine, oily hair really which can look weighed down and be left with a residue if I use any heavy, creamy, moisturising shampoo. So I tend to use clarifying shampoos to avoid grease and to add texture to my hair which would otherwise be overly soft and limp. However I find these shampoos tend to strip the dyed colour out of my hair.

Does anyone have any recommendations for shampoo which would tackle grease, add volume but also preserve colour?

Thanks

Have you tried the aveeno colour protect range? Or the Pantene active pro-v colour protect? Both awesome! X

I have fine hair too, which gets oily after 3 days, but it isn’t coloured.

The shampoos that work for me, in order of most often use:

John Frieda Straightening Shampoo (I see they do a colour range too)
L’Oreal Professionel Absolute Repair Lipidium Shampoo
Garnier Ultimate Blends Banana Hair Food Shampoo
L’Occitane Verbena Shampoo

My hair colourist told me that some shampoos contain an ingredient which tends to strip the colour out of hair. I can't remember what the ingredient is but think it begins with p.

Avoid shampoos that contain sodium lauryl sulfate, sodium laureth sulfate, and sodium chloride. Sulfate in shampoo can cause hair color to fade

Faith In Nature. I've been using it for years on my coloured hair. It's very mild, smells lovely and the conditioner works without weighing my hair down. It is also very eco friendly and very good value. You can get it in Waitrose now, but also on amazon and they have their own website.

Pureology hydrate shampoo & conditioner. They do a volume version if you prefer but I find the hydrate version light enough. I have chin length hair and find a 5p sized blob of the conditioner on the ends is plenty, so it lasts ages.

I have a very similar hair type to you and I use Olaplex. Pricy but it works a charm. I’ve had little spurts of running out and not buying more but then spending more overall buying lots of unsuitable products.

User41 · 31/07/2023 09:30

@ColonelRhubarbBikini thanks, I’ve never really considered olaplex before as I always thought it looked quite creamy and as if would weigh my hair down but good to know it works on fine hair. Which one do you use? I know there are lots of different numbers for olaplex

L'Oreal Elvive for coloured hair (the red one) works a treat for me. I use the conditioner too.

ColonelRhubarbBikini · 31/07/2023 09:34

@User41 No it doesn’t weigh down my hair. It’s a bond builder so it’s not moisturising in the traditional sense. It makes my hair stronger and in better condition. I use the 4 and the 5 which is the regular shampoo and conditioner. You can get wee trial sizes of them on Cult Beauty or Sephora so give them a go before you splash out on the big bottles.

User41 · 31/07/2023 10:34

@ColonelRhubarbBikini thank you, great tip about the trial size bottles
