To ask what medication you take for anxiety panic depression

I am asking here rather than 'mental health' to get wider / extra views.
I had a relapse earlier this year after years on a low dose old fashioned tricyclic.
Dr advised increasing the dose again but unfortunately this time it hasn't worked. (Been over 3 months.)
I've been doing all self help and seeing a psychologist too but it's still so severe and affecting every area of my life.
Although depression involved it definitely starts as anxiety / panic but it's not related to anything specific - just 'there.'
I've had some time off work but didn't solve anything.
I'm really worried about the prospect of changing medication but I know not much choice now.

Sertraline and CBT ... Saved my life.

stargirl1701 · 28/07/2023 22:19

I've tried (but can't spell):

Sertarline
Fluxotine
Mirtazipine
Citalopram
Venaflaxine
and now on Paroxitine.

It's been 5 years of trying with little success.

Sertraline has really worked for a family member. The first few weeks were tough, but for them, it was well worth pushing through.

I'm so sorry to those who are also struggling (and those where medication isn't helping - it's so difficult.)
@tillytoodles1 I was on seroxat many years ago and found it helpful (although nightmare to come off - managed eventually.) What difference for you find with the branded rather than paroxetine - I'm assuming it would be paroxetine I would be given now if I tried it.

I have taken various anti depressants over the years. I tried sertraline, it worked for a while, then I got really bad agoraphobia which meant I didn't get my prescription, I had dizziness for a couple of days, then felt no different. Eventually went to Dr, who put me on prozac, I spent a fortnight feeling sick.
I'm now taking citalopram, it keeps me on an even keel, mostly. Although this last week my anxiety has ramped up and my dreams are all about being lost.
I have no idea what my normal actually is, although not living under a black cloud all the time is a bonus.

Fluoxetine worked like a miracle for me (anxiety and depression).

Also have Valium for the occasional bad anxiety attack.

tillytoodles1 · 29/07/2023 10:09

The generic ones just don't work, i don't know why. Within a few days I start to feel awful.

kizziee · 29/07/2023 10:32

@tillytoodles1 I've heard that before from other people - they should be the same but obviously aren't
