To be embarrassed that it took me 40 years to get how brilliant Fleetwood Mac are?

Back in the day I dismissed them as boring, mainstream hippies, but my god, their music has really stood the test of time and still sounds urgent, passionate and relevant even now! I love watching their concerts when they are on TV and wished I'd seen them live. Though tbh, when they were big I was into disco, indie, new romantic stuff, so couldn't really relate to them, so I don't judge my younger self too much, but wow how wrong I was!

Anyone else who has evaluated music from their past?

At least you know now. You could have gone through life not realising 😁

I think Go your own way is one of the best songs ever.

I’m a lifelong huge Fleetwood Mac fan…so I would only say better late than never 😊. It never fails to amaze me how there was so much drama going on within the band and somehow they managed to stay together through it all. There’s a documentary called Don’t Stop, which is a good watch. I play my favourites most days, which is Rhiannon, the 1976 live from Burbank Studios version , 1976 and Dreams, but there are so many. My youngest dd (16) loves them too.

Lifelong fan here too and saw them live back in the day. Incredible. Stevie Nicks’ solo stuff is great too.

Georgeandzippyzoo · 27/07/2023 23:28

I had similar teen music taste (now more rock) and although I like a couple of their songs, j just dont get it, the level of adoration they and their music are given (although agree about the drama within the group!)

PortiaWithNoBreaks · 27/07/2023 23:30

Big fan too and seconding the documentary Don’t Stop (love a music documentary)

I only know the later stuff but Seven Wonders is a big ear worm for me and I find the video cute.

Iloveanicegarden · 27/07/2023 23:36

BBC4 quite often run theme nights with groups such as FM. The pathos in their music and lyrics is similar to some ABBA stuff I think - possibly for the same reasons. In the docs there quite often is info about where the idea for the lyric came from. It's all so sad

It is. Though I retain a soft spot for ‘I don’t Want to Know’.

As is Lindsey Buckingham’s. Albeit it is slightly more of an acquired taste. He was super fit back in the day too

Love a bit of Fleetwood Mac. My sisters and I took my mum to see them 15/20 odd years ago when we were teenagers. I only knew them as mums music then and they were still pretty awesome. As I have got older I have definitely developed a more of a taste for them myself. Listened to a lot of Go your own way and Silver springs when I separated from my kids dad 😂

Tessisme · 27/07/2023 23:49

DP loves Fleetwood Mac. I'm more the type who isn't into their music but can absolutely see their brilliance. I do like some of their music. I just don't love it!

AlexanderArnold · 27/07/2023 23:53

Yes, totally get this!

GoingToBeLessRubbishAtLife · 27/07/2023 23:58

I have ‘Big Love’ recorded at Warner Brothers Studio, Burbank on 5/23/97 on Spotify.

BBCK · 28/07/2023 00:01

I too ignored them in their heyday and now totally regret not seeing them live. Their music is brilliant and Lindsay Buckingham was absolutely gorgeous!

Maddy70 · 28/07/2023 00:02

My daughter is a music producer and she was playing and mixing Fleetwood Mac and I thought that was brilliant. Abd then I had this reckoning. It's brilliant because Fleetwood Mac were brilliant!

baroqueandblue · 28/07/2023 00:11

They were incredibly good from the time of the first album featuring Stevie Nicks and Lindsay Buckingham, right through to Tango in the Night. Very patchy since, but a handful of decent tracks here and there.

Definitely one of my favourite bands since I first heard the singles from Mirage in the early 80s. Still have plenty of their songs in playlists I listen to fairly frequently.

At the moment my top 3 of their songs is Second Hand News, Sisters of the Moon, and Behind the Mask. But it changes 😃

Moonshine60 · 29/07/2023 16:52

Hubs (who is a bit older than me) introduced me to Fleetwood Mac, love it. Don't stop thinking about tomorrow lol.

Catusrusty · 29/07/2023 17:01

I bloody love them and their music, Stevie Nicks voice had so much soul. And I so admire her speaking about reproductive freedom.

How they managed to make any music at all given the dysfunctional relationships and drugs is a miracle. How they did it so brilliantly, I will never comprehend.

The F1 coverage just isn't the same since they cut 'the chain'!

Whatineed · 29/07/2023 17:07

Tango in the night was the second CD I bought for my new Sony midi system in the late 80's. I felt like it was a move from teenager to grown up.

Wish I'd seen them live like some of the other lucky people here, but I never found anyone to go with, as none of my friends seemed to share the love, so I kind of back catalogued them for a few years.

How I loved seeing Stevie on American Horror Story. 😍

NooNakedJacuzziness · 29/07/2023 17:33

Lindsey Buckingham is a huge huge talent, brilliant guitar player. I prefer his more punchy songs to some of Stevie's floaty stuff. Although Gypsy is probably my absolute favourite.
