Given a breast pump-now she wants it back!

A friend gave me a breast pump last year, she didn’t need it anymore. But now is asking for it back to give to someone else.
I am still using it as I’m still breastfeeding my 1yo.
I’m a bit annoyed - AIBU? I’ll have to shell out for a new one for the last few months of breastfeeding. What would you say?

but what can you do eh!
You can remember how she treated you and treat her accordingly

I'd not borrow anything from her again. I really dislike people who do this. If she gave it to you you'd presume it was for as long as you needed and then you'd either return it as agreed or pass it on yourself, or keep it to use for another baby.

She is being very unreasonable. I’ll bet you would have preferred buying your own pump to use from the early days, rather than for just the latter part of your time spent breastfeeding. They are expensive but a worthwhile investment used throughout I think.

This is why I politely declined baby clothes and other things, making excuses that we had everything and had already been bought a ridiculous amount. Which is often true. I wouldn’t borrow or accept anything else off her.

I can’t believe a PP was asked to return baby clothes. Did the lender not realise baby clothes tend to get absolutely ruined with poo and many high temperature washes?

If she knows you are still using it then yes I'd be pretty annoyed. Could you offer to buy it off her? People often sell these things on, and they are often given for free on a local Facebook group I'm in.

We were given lots of things when I was pregnant. Some of it was given, some loan. And some I checked before passing it on just incase the original owner wanted it back or to do something different with it. But I've never had someone ask for something back while I'm still using it.

What can you do? You can say no, it's mine, you gave it to me

Spottypineapple · 27/07/2023 17:53

Not the point of the thread but by 1 year there's no need to pump to keep up supply! How long are you away for?

OsirisservesAnubis · 27/07/2023 17:54

How long are you away from your child for? At 1yo you should be very settled in to breastfeeding and won't need to pump to keep up supply.

FWIW at 12months old my daughter wouldn't feed gir a week, would then feed 3 times a day. No supply issues. By 12 months it'll take an age for you to stop milk production!

You don't need to pump to keep up supply but, if you feed a lot most days, you do usually have to express to relieve engorgement and prevent mastitis. On the few days I wasn't able to I was in agony.
