To use a wash out pink hair cream on Dd (6) over summer holidays?

It’s a very baby pink Crazy Color, I’m currently doing a test strand to make sure it isn’t too mad!

Dd has asked and asked and asked for it for months and I said yes once summer hols are here I’d look into it. This seems to be the one that won’t last forever.

Yes I know hair chalks/hairspray but honestly I just don’t want to spend the next 6 weeks applying hair stuff every day. Plus it’ll make her happy and worst comes to worst she’ll have a short bob come September.

I would! I really can't see any harm in this

Lockeddownagain · 26/07/2023 18:32

My daughter gor.bored qfter a week and didn't put it back in its really good and just comes out

Echobelly · 26/07/2023 18:39

YANBU, I know quite a lot of people who have done fun streaks on young kids in the holidays, it's cute.

My 15 yo has gone whole hog and bleached fringe and then dyed bright pink. It looks awesome!

Mommybunny · 26/07/2023 18:42

I don’t see any harm either - I think as a parent you need to choose your battles and this is not worth fighting (if indeed you were inclined to fight). In wardrobe/hair/makeup matters it’s important to give your child autonomy and choice when circumstances allow freedom. If you allow them freedom when their appearance doesn’t matter they may be less likely to protest conforming when it does, such as when they need to go to school or a grandparent’s funeral or a smart restaurant.

Have fun!

DS used to do this over summer when he was 12/13/14. Word of warning though - some colours fade better than others.

Did a teal/turquoise colour one summer and it was still quite visible by the time school rolled around so we had to put on a brown dye and touch up areas with some root spray for the first few weeks of term.

MardaNorton · 26/07/2023 18:49

DS (11) has had pink hair for the last eight or nine months (at a school with no uniform, or self-presentation rules). I couldn't get excited about it unless there's some particular reason not to, like a school rule etc.

I did live colour pink 12-14 washes on my daughter the summer before she went into reception, I do it as a dip dye so it's away from her scalp. She thinks she looks like a mermaid 😂

uncomfortablydumb53 · 26/07/2023 18:52

YANBU She'll be so happy

Moonflower12 · 26/07/2023 18:53

Do it!

ManyATrueWord · 26/07/2023 19:01

Read the leaflet. Not for under 16s. Why? Because they are at greater risk of developing allergies from exposure to those chemicals..

Ostryga · 26/07/2023 19:12

Crazy Color is designed for under 16s.

It’s on! Dd didn’t want to wait surprisingly 😂 I shall update with baby pink hair soon

YANBU go for it x

Oh, interested to hear how it turns out. What colour is your DDs hair naturally. My DD v keen to do this too but worried it won't wash out totally before school. I wonder if it will show at all. Her hair is auburn/red

Both my boys have had turquoise/ pink streaks in their hair over past summer holidays! Go for it!

Under their FAQs it says not for use for under 16s. In case there’s an allergic reaction I’d find something else to be honest.

Please say you did a patch test at least? But no I'd use chalks and sprays but I wouldn't put chemicals like this onto their hair and scalp at that age.

Motnight · 26/07/2023 19:34

Just a word of warning - my DD used a pink crazy color in her hair years ago. It lasted months 😬

Ostryga · 26/07/2023 19:42

It’s a vegetable based dye people. I’ve checked the ingredients (I’m not an idiot, as much as some would love that) and there is basically the same ingredients as baby conditioner.

Relax! I’m not using high powered bleach on my daughter. Surprisingly I don’t wish her any harm!

I'd be worried it wouldn't wash out, I use temporary dyes all the time (my hair is currently blue) and they have never completely washed out 🤣 not sure what the kid friendly ones are like though.
My eldest has black hair so I waited til he was 12 to do bright colours cause I had to bleach it. Other son was about 7 because he was blonde but because they were boys I just cut it in September. If I knew it was defo going to wash out properly I'd do my daughter's (age 6).

It’s not lasting I’d worry about it’s allergic reactions.

I’ve known a few young kids be allergic to milk and one develop eczema. That’s why I wouldn’t chance it with a child. But you do you.

blacknredsweeties · 27/07/2023 09:57

Dd11 has had green crazy hair colour in for a week now.

Inmyownlittlecorner · 27/07/2023 10:18

Thanks for the tip on crazy colour! DD14 has been asking to dye her hair for ages & DD10 wants a bright pink dip dye, so I've done an order. I remember using harmony dyes that stayed in for about a fortnight. DD14 has ASC & is worried about it not washing out in time for September so these seem perfect!

CeratopsofthePharoahs · 27/07/2023 10:19

When my eldest was 9 he begged me to dye his hair blue for the summer. As he has naturally dark hair, the wash=out colour we used didn't really work and he was gutted. The following year covid happened so I used a lightening spray and a semi permanent colour. It went sort of aqua blue and he loved it!
Last summer we went further and I used a proper hair lightening kit which worked amazingly and then we dyed it magenta! Sadly, the colour vanished pretty fast thanks to him spending a lot of time in a swimming pool on holiday. Never mind, dyed it silver for a bit and then put a light brown dye on for return to school.
This year it's been bleached again and he decided some pink streaks would look good. Did my best, though it's a bit messy. If he wants streaks again I'm getting a highlighting cap!
We've had no allergic reactions - I've always done a small test patch to make sure. If you've done the allergy check and your child is happy, then go for it! Wish I'd been allowed some hair creativity as a child.

I just have to get used to my normally dark brown haired son suddenly a bottle blonde with mad pink bits!
