To ask if you love where you live?

I don't feel settled. My partner and I are tempted to just completely move away. We'd need to rent a 3 bedroom house, have schools nearby and just a pleasant day to day life.....

Where do you live and what do you love about it? What are costs like?

I love that it is far enough from where I grew up to make my own. We live in a cheaper part of a fairly expensive town and so can afford a lot of space. I love my neighbourhood and I love how well connected this town is. We can get to Wales, Devon, Dorset or London all in less than 2 hours.

DeedlessIndeed · 26/07/2023 13:59

Love it!

In a Scottish city, 40 mins drive and I'm in national parks with all the outdoors space.

Property much cheaper than where I grew up down south. Large, 5 bed period property, with private garden back and front, 15 mins walk from the edge of city centre, and plenty of neighbourhood cafes and restaurant. House is on an old Victorian Square with private communal gardens so really quiet traffic wise, good community spirit and pretty.

It was 450K in 2020, but needed a fair amount of work. Downsides are mixed schools in area, high utility bills and high renovation costs. Still worked out best for us at the time, but we don't have kids yet.

aperolspritzbasicbitch · 26/07/2023 14:00

I don't love it. It's a town close to quite a few beaches/holiday parks, so there is a good amount of outdoorsy stuff to do when there weather is nice - some nice walks etc.
Only problem is, when the weather is good enough for the beach, it's peak tourist season so the traffic getting to/parking close to the beach is almost impossible 🤣

I always say I would move to London in a heartbeat, but actually that's my romanticised view of London - no work, dinner out every night, constant theatre trips, living in Knightsbridge, the mall being part of my daily dog walk.

We have a better quality of live here.

Bluevelvetsofa · 26/07/2023 14:00

I love the house, but I don’t love the nearest town. I don’t need to go there though. The bigger town nearby was great, but is now full of coffee shops, hairdressers and charity shops. We have the sea and the South Downs though and I can shop online.

NancyJoan · 26/07/2023 14:02

No, I miss London even though it's been 17 years. We have a nicer home, good schools, park on our doorstep, great friends, feels safe for teens etc. But I'd still prefer the Northern Line.

Hufflepods · 26/07/2023 14:04

East London, village feel, lots on my doorstep, good transport links, community feel. I love the area, we also renovated our property from top to bottom so it is exactly what we want.
In a dream world I would have a huge detached house, but not ready to leave our area so happy with what we have.

sunshineplayroom · 26/07/2023 14:04

I love our part of London and our Edwardian house, despite it being a very on-going project!

ChevySilverado · 26/07/2023 14:06

I do love our house, it has lots of space and we’ve got it to just how we like over the years. I’m not from here though so always wishing it was back home but that’s more to do with missing that lifestyle and friends. 😢

I love where I live. A lovely part of Cornwall, not too far from the sea. Lovely walks close by. Lots of time spent outdoors.

I’m so jealous! I live near London and I’ve always wanted to move to Cornwall or Devon.
Cheaper, peaceful, lovely scenery.
The only thing that stops me is I think I’m so used to having everything close by and lots of choice.

EdithStourton · 26/07/2023 14:10

I did, but it is now surrounded with new housing estates, the traffic is noticeably worse and I'd like to get the hell out.

Aaarghthepancakes · 26/07/2023 14:10

Love our home, and we're in a nice town, but I think it's too far from London where I grew up. Ultimately I'd like to move south, but we are settled here and we are very lucky. Maybe when I've retired, or won the lottery ...

strongcupofTea · 26/07/2023 14:11

I do like where I live. I'm in the south, about 20 min drive to the sea and about 15 mins from the new forest. I'd like to move to Dorset but can't cause of work commitments but maybe one day. Although Dorset is only 30 mins away anyway it's not like I have to drive hours to get somewhere beautiful and I have a big forest opposite our house so lucky really.

Dexra · 26/07/2023 14:12

No. Moved from a town to the countryside. I'd always wanted to live in the countryside and completely idealised it. It did not occur to me once that I'd be one of those townies who regretted it and would have to move back within a year or two, but I think that's what's going to have to happen. Such a flipping waste of money.

massistar · 26/07/2023 14:13

Yes, I love where I live. Big seaside village with lots of outdoor activities. I miss the cultural aspects I had growing up in a big city but overall am happy with the trade off, especially when bringing up kids.

Downside is expensive housing but we bought a number of years ago. Although highly unlikely our kids will be able to but here.

rumred · 26/07/2023 14:18

I live outside Bradford, it's close to woods, river, moors. I absolutely love it and the people round here are lovely, the nicest friendliest neighbourhood I've ever lived in.
Close to all necessities, it's a truly fabulous and cheap place to live

What don't you like about it, out of interest?

Giveuprobot · 26/07/2023 14:19

Yes. I live in Shropshire. I won't stay here after my daughter is grown up but for now, it's a storybook childhood.

nationallampoons · 26/07/2023 14:22

I hate it and I'm looking to move.

We have 3 communities where I live. The locals who were born and will die here.

We have a huge traveller community

"Outsiders" (what the locals call them) the ones who cannot afford the buy in the rich surrounding villages and city.

I've lived here for 20 years, and I've hated it for the past couple of years. It's a large village full of racist busy bodies.

We did the same once and the novelty of the rolling hills wore off very quickly. Hated being isolated and not being able to just pop to a shop or order food and having to be a taxi for my teenagers.

FunnysInLaJardin · 26/07/2023 14:31

Jersey and absolutely love it. The beaches, the countryside, the job market, the tiny commute, the good wages, the weather, everything!

Applebeard · 26/07/2023 14:34

Quiet Cumbrian town. Red squirrels in the garden, view of the lakeland fells out of the window. Heaven.

SunnyEgg · 26/07/2023 14:35

Yes London and love it. Great community, schools and neighbours

No plans to go elsewhere

F0Xinthesun · 26/07/2023 14:36

Brighton. I love it! I'm on the outskirts so can swim in the sea every day and have easy access to the South Downs for lovely walks. If I want to I can go into Brighton centre for arts, concerts, theatre and the best food anywhere in the UK, well maybe apart from London!

I love the people, they are friendly and quirky, everyone is welcome and not so many grumpy people. I chose to live here, I could have lived anywhere in the UK.
