To ask them to pay to replace my phone screen?

Today at work while walking the dogs, one of them knocked it out of my hand. The screen is totally smashed and my phone is unusable. (I don't normally have it out but was trying to answer a call from my GP). I'm a private Housekeeper and walking the dogs is part of my job.

It's not insured - I've never had a phone damaged and tbh since my partner passed, money has been so tight it was an expense I couldn't afford. It's going to be at least £140 to replace the screen. (Google Pixel 6) It had a good case and screen protector but landed on a brick path.

Wibu to ask the family to either pay or claim off their house insurance? I'm using an old one at the moment but it's 3g so can't make calls!

I'm so glad it's resolved and seems they really appreciate you!

I'm sorry this thread has made you feel that way. It's happened to me many a time too. Unfortunately Mumsnet can be the best and the worst. Flowers

I'm glad it's been resolved. You seem to have had a really rough time.

Glad something came good from this mess! ❤️

The past couple of years the vitriol directed at OPs on MN has increased and leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Even after the OP expresses distress the abuse continues with nothing positive or constructive.
Im so pleased there has been a positive outcome OP. Take comfort in the fact that your employer values you and look after yourself.

I wouldn’t expect my employer to replace my phone if I dropped it in the office

Exactly! ⬆️

@Bluesheeps
Good thing it didn't happen to you then 🤷🏻‍♀️

It all kinda came to a head today. I arrived at work to find the homeowner very cross with me because I hadn't answered her calls. I'd had a really bad night, my illness is flaring and I broke down and it all came out.

She's paid for my screen to be replaced. We're also arranging a cheap contract for a work phone so I don't have to have mine out around the dogs. Also sorted some wage stuff out so I'm getting more per hour too.

I'm sorry if I upset anyone. I'm having a really rough time and felt very pushed to defend myself on this thread. Think it's time for me to take a break from this forum, honestly, because I'm feeling a bit raw and genuinely can't take any more people telling me I'm a shit person.

@BusyMum47

Did you read this, or where you too busy adding to the pile on?
